Title: Happy Groundhog Day!
Post by: Parker on February 02, 2007, 05:35:41 PM
He actually didn't see his shadow this year--the first time since 1999.  That means an early spring, by the way.  Is anyone else holding Groundhog Day festivities?

You're in luck! I've got a 300 magnum E can borrow for just such an immunity.

 ;D

I was actually curious about this holiday and did a little research earlier, turns out, the local weather guy said Phil is only right 39% of the time, but the official Punxatawney Phil site says that despite attempts to undermine him, Phil is right 100% of the time. I don't know what to believe.

Isn't the choice either 6 more weeks of winter or a month and a  half of winter?

And I'll bet they define it as 6 weeks - 42 days   and month and a half, month (February) 28 days + a half 14 = 42 days.   Surprise!   He's right 100% of the time.

Wait!  Maybe he can get it wrong on leap year?

Wait, isn't the first day of spring around March 21st? Regardless of the little furry guy? I think I need to watch the movie tonight.

No, it's six more weeks of winter if he sees his shadow or "an early spring" if he doesn't.  Groundhogs are too tricky to actually pin themselves down to a specific time period.  Actually, groundhogs tend to avoid pins like the plague.

Especially when the pins are infected with plague.

Actually it was kinda funny; I was thinking about Groundhogs Day on the first, I forgot about it yesterday, and now I remembered it too late. I have a strange tendency to do that kind of thing for the holidays, heck, I'd probably forget about Christmas until the 26th if it weren't for the huge tree and my family talking about it.

For purposes of my sanity I'm going to assume that an early spring means that it is now currently spring.  I like spring.  I'm glad spring is here.

I don't know if the Groundhog saw his shadow or not, but I saw the grim specter of doom on February 2. Does that mean we'll have an early apocalypse?

Only if you were in Punxatawney when you saw him.

Isn't that a black dog? I thought those only counted against you personally.
