City of Heroes is everywhere
« on: March 16, 2005, 05:33:17 PM »
A pen-and-paper RPG produced by none other than Eden (Buffy, etc.): http://www.plaync.com/about/2005/03/eden_studios_nc_1.html

And a CCG produced by Alderac (Legend of the Five Rings, Doomtown, Warlord, etc.) and illustrated by Top Cow (Witchblade, City of Heroes, etc.): http://www.plaync.com/about/2005/03/alderac_enterta.html

I'd comment, but...that's a lot to take in. I can't wait for the breakfast cereal.

I don't see the point of haveing a pen and paper version of a MMO, it's kind of redudent.  Also I'm sure it'll be like the WoW RPG who's sourcebooks are just repeats of all the content (maps, NPCs, quests) as the MMO.  It'll probaly be D20 too, which is dissapointing.
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

There is already a Warcraft d20 game.  Of course, there is also Diablo d20, so that isn't too surprising really.  Warcraft is done better, but it was also made a lot later.

Expect a review of the corebook for the Warcraft D&D book sometime, I got it for cheap.

Mechanics are pretty bad, balance is atrocious but the classes and races are cool and so is the setting.

Annoyingly, it gets around having most of it's races being powerful enough for a +1 level adjustment by saying "All characters start at level 2"

One thing that made my group laugh when we played it was the fact that basically every race except humans has darkvision.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

Have any of you EQ junkies ever checked out the Everquest pencil-and-paper RPG? I dumped more hours than I care to remember into EQ back in the day, and I've nearly purchased the core book on a number of occasions. But I just always had this idea in the back of my head that my group would roll up characters, and then we'd spend all night killing infinitely respawning orcs in a camp until someone leveled up.

Nope, just saw the press release. It will be using a modified version of CJ Carella's UniSystem, which is what most Eden RPGs use.
Now you can cross: superheroes, zombie survival horror, Buffy/Angel, witches, Apemen and someday Army of Darkness  ;D

Thought I'd post this here, Wizkids has more or less comfirmed that there will be anothe INDY set of Heroclix of some type and the rumors are abuzz that it will be a CoH set.  WK is going to announce what it is at this years comic-con in mid July.

There's a pretty cool preview of the CoH comicbook available here: http://www.newsarama.com/Top_Cow/CoH/CoH_01.htm

The plot (or conflict, I suppose) sounds neat, and the art and writing seem pretty nice.

Yeah, I just got that email. I suppose I'll have to spend the weekend fighting injustice again (dangit!).

Not only is it everywhere, but it's now free for 14 days
(of course, you still have to buy the software.)

Not exactly the most fitting thread, but close enough.

They just had a fashion show, and these chumps were the winners: http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/archives/2005/09/city_of_heroes_21.html

UXB would have blown them all away.
