Skyline lost the Emotion Bowl. Badly. (See the happy things thread for my explanation of the Emotion Bowl)
It wouldn't have been so bad to lose, but we lost due to a whole bunch of really stupid mistakes. Our team was really sloppy in the first half of the game, and when they finally got it together in the second half, they still made just enough mistakes to prevent us from winning. Every time it seemed like we did something amazing, we'd do something really stupid shortly after.
For example, one of our players had an amazing interception on our 3-yard line. The catch was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. At this point, if they'd worked down the field a bit, we might have had a chance. Instead, our quarterback dropped the ball and allowed IF to take possession (on our 3 yard line). They scored, of course. That was pretty much the clincher.
But there were other moments. We had several huge runs down the field, and got to the point where we were first down and goal. Our quarterback passed it right to one of the IF players standing in the middle of the endzone, with no Skyline players within 10 feet of him. I about screamed at this point.
Realize, of course, that I'm not trying to pick on the quarterback. The whole team sucked. Miserably. In fact, I can only think of one player on the entire team who played what I could call a great game. The rest just didn't play well.
I'd attribute it to the team being bad if I hadn't seen them play other games. We've played teams that were better than us and won because of some of the brilliant plays they've done. We're the only team in our region still undefeated (until tonight, anyway). I've been to several other games watching these guys, and usually they play really well. Tonight, they all just fell apart. It was pretty much awful.
So now, I get to spend Tuesday eating my words in all of my classes at IF. And the goal posts remain orange. Between that, losing my voice from all that screaming, and the really annoying girls about 5 feet away from me the whole game, it wasn't among my favorite Emotion Bowls. It was still fun, though.
