Title: Ookla the Mok news!
Post by: Peter Ahlstrom on April 21, 2005, 10:33:03 AM
Ookla the Mok has a new CD out called Dave Lennon. It's a rather odd collection of tracks. You can hear some of them (and buy the CD) at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/ooklathemok05

I really, really like the "spot the cat" song. Anyway, I'll tell you all what I think when the CD arrives...

Ok, so I've scoured their site and stuff to hear some of the Mok's. Cool stuff it is.

The cat song's lyrics are taken from Data's poem in a TNG episode, though stanzas have been reordered to better places.

Well. The CD is definitely only for HARDCORE Ookla fans. If you do not already have every single other CD Ookla has made, don't get it. The couple live recordings aren't any better than stuff on the original Rand and Adam tape, and a lot of the tracks are looks at songs in various stages of completion. A couple are alternate versions or alternate songs planned for their other CDs that they decided to drop in favor of other things, and in every case they made the right decision.

The Spot song makes the CD purchase worth it for me, but if it didn't have that one I would've been disappointed, and that's saying a lot.

Wait. Ookla, your name isn't original? But borrowed from a singer?

Here I was thinking that your name was so creative...

I feel betrayed.

It's from a BAND, which in turn got it's name from a cartoon character.

I recognized the Spot song afterwards.  It kept running through my head... an endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature... that sounds familiar....

(I still haven't bothered to look up "endothermic," though.  It means heated from the inside?  Warm-blooded?)

Sorry to shatter your misconception...

It's an obscure enough band that it works for me...and I am historically one of the biggest fans...

*Chimera picks up the pieces of her shattered misconceptions*

Actually, don't worry about it. I mean, that was so, like, yesterday. I'm totally over it now.  ;)

Endothemic means warm-blooded, yes.

I used to be able to recite the whole thing.  Can still do most of it.  Yeah I'm a trek geek.

Not only that but he was one of several people named Peter who were thanked in one of the albums, as I recall.
The song kind of reminded me of TMBG's "Dinner Bell."

Is he happy that he's in this song?

printed on the CD itself (it's one of those black cds like Sucking Out Loud) are the words "Dave Lennon Better Be Happy"
