Site News / Missed Post
« on: November 06, 2003, 03:02:32 PM »
Yesterday, being Wednesday, is the first weekday since early august that we haven't posted something to the main page--an article, press release, or staff pick. This is entirely my fault, thanks to the allure of the Matrix, but I wanted to take the opportunity to applaud all of you guys who write so many articles for us. This is a very strong time in the history of TWG, and I hope we can keep it up and get even stronger.

Haha! They thought they'd removed all internet access from this public computer, but I'm too smart for them.

So here I am at the court house doing Jury Duty, where I will likely be at least until Wednesday. I'll try to make sure we still get articles posted, and i'll do my best to keep up my 2000 words a day for NaNoWriMo, but we'll have to see. Just don't be surprised if I don't read or comment on anything for a while.

CCGs / LotR Online
« on: October 30, 2003, 07:53:32 PM »
Decipher is beta testing their LotR Online CCG, and I have to say that I absolutely love it--still not as user-friendly as it needs to be, but very fun. I don't know if you can still get into the beta, but if you can I highly recommend it.

When Topps bought Wizkids, we all knew it was going to happen eventually. It did.

Both Max Payne 2 and Commandos 3 come out today, and I'm extremely excited about both. As well as extremely unable to afford or otherwise acquire them. Just thought I'd share.

Anything else you guys are itching for that's due to be released soon?

CCGs / Netdraft
« on: October 09, 2003, 06:34:28 PM »
There's a new version of a shareware program that allows you to play Magic draft games online--and while we're at it, they're testing the newest version of a non-draft Magic program. These are both free, and sound like they could be a good way of bringing together various TWGers from across the world. There's no channels or matching service--it's all direct connections from computer to computer--but we can work out those details pretty easily.

Who's interested?

Video Games / Rise of Nations
« on: October 08, 2003, 01:48:27 PM »
A friend of mine lent me this game, and it's taken over my life...or at least my sleeping patterns. I never liked Age of Empires, but this one is so much more exciting and interesting and strategic--the city idea is the best thing to happen to RTS games since Blizzard. Every night I have to forcibly stop myself from playing "just one more game," and sometimes even that doesn't work. Last night I was up until 3 in the morning (which is why I didn't post an article until 10:30.

If devastating addiction is the sign of a truly great game, Rise of Nations is about as good as it gets.

CCGs / Mirrodin is the Artifact block

No big surprise there, since most of us assumed as much. Anyway, it sounds really cool and the first preview is right here:

Remember, all of you in Utah, TWG is taking a little trip to the Mirrodin prerelease on September 20. Everyone is welcome.

What's this? / Another New Game!
« on: August 28, 2003, 04:54:16 PM »
Entropy's list brings to light the fact that most of the big posters are in at least one game, but very few people are involved in two games. Is there enough interest that we should start another game, or is the market already saturated?

As nice as it is to believe that TWG is a raging money machine, I do have a real job outside of it. Or at least I did. The company I work for is doing a large wave of layoffs, and this morning they chopped off a significant portion of people in my department. One of them, sadly, was me.

I have three months of severance, which is nice, so I'm not on the street yet. I'll spend most of my time looking for jobs (know of any good ones?), but I imagine you'll also see a large influx of quality Fellfrosch reviews. Feel free to post your condolences here, and if you want to send cash, then by gum I won't stop you.

I know you've all been raring to go o this one, so here's your chance: what game do you want to see replace Patriot City? Whether you want to be a GM or a player, state your ideas here.
