Iron Kingdoms World Guide
« on: March 23, 2005, 02:50:06 AM »
Its out, its big 400+ pages and its almost completely crunch free. It'd be a cinch to adapt the Iron Kingdoms to your favorite system, GURPS, HERO, Fusion you name it. The Idea of a BESM version of the Iron Kingdoms has a lot of appeal.

or when Pleasington and I review it... Since we have it...

Oddly... not much to review... cause its a 400 page world book with no rules in it.

Well if they don't send us a review copy in the next few weeks that would be great Jeffe, I just like to wait for us to try and get things (especially when they've sent us stuff in the past) before doing a reveiw.

I know, it get us all more free stuff...

They may be in short supply, rumor is they are selling like hotcakes...

I still have to read it anyway.... 400 pages is a lot of game book.

Yep.  I can see why it's selling so well too, the core book is one of the best RPG books that has come out in recent years.

My initial review is that Iron Kingdoms is the best written and compelling campaign for D20 ever.

The history is certainly in depth.  Me gusta mucho.

I've been following the Iron Kingdoms since the first book of the Witchfire Trilogy gave us oh-so-scant info on a compelling settings.  This is the payoff.

That said, the design has changed a lot since the beginning.  There's a lot of little changes to even the most basic concepts.  Plus, the big climax of the Witchfire Trilogy, which is a pretty huge world-changing event, gets downgraded to a passing note in history since the miniture game has given birth to a war.

The theme has changed quite a bit because of the war too.  I think it would have served them better to set the World Guide before the war broke out.  That's really my one complaint.

There is, incidentally, still plenty to review in a setting book with few or no rules. You just don't review rules additions/changes.
