Role-Playing Games / Re: Palladium Games

I dont think thats true- PreProtoculture stuff still had MDC (Armd Space platforms, tanks and such) and there were man portable MDC weapons back pack laser in Robotech. By Southern Cross Man Portable MDC weapons were common, but I didnt mind because in the show lots of weapons could blow up bioroids. Invid Invasion (the best Robotech book IMHO) introduced man sized mecha!!!! (Granted they were from the show) that had stats comparable to Battleroids in the first game (except the MAC II). Almost every weapon in Invid invasion did mdc except for the odd hunting rife. But since most folks always wore their battle armor (so their cyclone could transform) it was moot  to have SDC.

Does anyone have this? If so is it worth buying. Iwant to do a Champions game and I was wondering if Hero 5 was as good as Hero 4.

I just think that combat should be as dangerous as it is in real life.

In Warhammer FRP I remember that characters rarely had over 4 or 5 hits before death.  It made combat quick and brutal.

Except I really dont need a hit location chart. You can die from just about any gunshot wound if you are untreated.

As a GM I just want a simple mechanic I can look at and say " you just got shot in the leg and it hurts like hell. You think your bone is broken. What are you going to do to stop the bleeding before you pass out?"

Role-Playing Games / The "A" list.
« on: April 18, 2003, 08:17:45 AM »
Ok gamers have tons of RPG's squirreled away at their homes. But lets say something horrible happens. Lets say you have to choose which games you can keep and which you cant. What top five game sets of core books would you keep and what would you tearfully cart over to the used book store.
I like to call this the A list and B list.

A List
The Collected Classic Traveller
Castle Falkenstein & Comme il faut
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
Hackmaster Core Books
Gurps IOU and Core Books.

B List
All my planescape stuff
D&D 3E
Vampire
Mage: Sorcerors Crusade
Wraith
Changling
Aeon
Abberant
Exalted
Rifts
Robotech
Heavy Gear
Jovian Chronicles
7th Sea
Lots of D20 stuff
Space 1889
Traveller 2300 AD
Feng Shui

err and a few hundred other things

Basically you choose an Idiology Christian, Pagan etc which has associated virtues... fufill those virtues and you get a little bonus to just about everything for your pure heart. Fall short and nothing happens.  Its more like a set of Morals and Ethics. If you dont comply then people talk about you behind your back.

Palladium has an allignment system too, one that I think works a little better. Do you ignore that?

White Wolf has that whole nature/demeanor thing

Warhammer Fantasy doesnt per se. It seems to follow the Michael Moorcock Eternal Champion route with Law and Chaos but it doesnt require you to keep track of it. This is cool because it means your Templar can be a son of a gun and not really care. Its also chock full of cool professions for players. (My rat catcher attacks your knight!)

Elric er... Stormbringer was cool that way too.

For a really neat honor alignment system get Pendragon.

However WW errs on the side of Minor annoyance penalty to roll and not"oh my god, someone just shot me!!!"

I hate adventure, but I like Abberent and Aeon... er Trinity. Trinity is an example of a great game with a big following that white wolf just abandoned.
They advertised the line for 2 years prior to its release and then released it (and got sued by MTV for the AEON FLUX crap which brought it tons of publicity in the RPG market) It sold really well. Then without a word they drop it for Abberent which was a cool take on a supers game. (Actually they ran together for a while, but not too long)
They never developed the coolness of Trinity though. This was one of the best sci-fi books ever made and they just turned their back on it.
I see Exhalted as an interesting diversion for WW and own about 4 of the books. If you just buy Exhalted, Dragon Blooded, Lunars, and Abyssals (and I assume Mercurials) you'll be spending your cash well. But if you buy any splatbooks other than Scavenger sons and Four circles your wasting your time.
Exalted actually reminds me of Streetfighter with all its old combo's and thats the best thing going for it. But What WW should have done is made a book just filled with Charms.
As is its nice to look at but Im never gonna play it.

Your actually right about Demon by the way, best WOD game they have done since Wraith. But its not going to last. So many stores wont carry it around here (and this is Washington DC) and across the nation and thats killing sales. They'll hang on for a little, but ultimately they'll cancel it for Angel the redemption or some other hastily put together piece of crud.
