Also, there's a good possibility that not every fact will be explained at first. These threads can then turn to the resolution of those facts.

If it is Chromium, then the 14th metal could be Nickel Chromate. (Though if this is true the metal colors on the wheel are reversed. Chromium is silvery, where Nickel Chromate is rust colored.)

Oh dark gods of forum posting! I call upon thy strength to reanimate the soul of this dead topic!

Okay, so it's necroposting, but I feel there's sufficient new material to resurrect this thread.

In Brandon's blog post about Issac being at the release party, he posted an image of a new metals poster they're working on. The link is http://www.monkeysloth.net/brandon/graphics/IsaacStewartConfirmedatProvoLaunchPartyH_C379/PosterPrelim.jpg

On this chart, we're most concerned with the bottom-left hand corner.

If you look closely, you can see that Aluminum, the Internal Pulling metal, and Duralumin, the Internal Pushing metal, are the fifteenth and sixteenth metals, respectively.

This means that the other two Enhancement metals are external, which may support the theory that Elend's metal is not on the wheel.

After skimming the topic, I can only come to one conclusion. Whoever gave Kelsier his bit of malatium must have known a lot. They knew the correct metal to alloy with atium, and exactly what percent of that metal to alloy as well. Then, on top of that, if they told Kelsier that the metal would help him kill The Lord Ruler, they must have known that The Lord Ruler was not who he was pretending to be, and had a knowledge of Feruchemy deep enough to surmise what Rashek was doing. That certainly narrows down the prospects a bit.

Just thought I'd mention here that Brandon's newest blog post confirms each of the Allomantic metals have a Hemalurgic ability. (And a Feruchemical one.)

So, one of the recent questions bugging me has been this.

Are Steelpush and Ironpull vectors forces of velocity or of acceleration?

Well, Ookla did say that all the problems with the ashmounts were taken care of, and I seem to recall him implying this solution the last time we discussed this problem. (A few months ago, I think.)

Or perhaps the Lord Ruler changed the human body to be able to take care of the ash when he used the power of the Well of Ascension.

Well, to be fair, there are some library books that I don't think I want to know what happened to.

It's less than a month away before Provo!!!! Wooo!

Speaking of which, who all is going? I know Miyabi is planning on it, I am, and Jakobus, I think. Anyone else?

I don't know, I just got the impression that the steel plate was kept in the cave. Something about how the architecture was so different from the rest of the Conventical. I mean, we know Kwaan wrote the steel plate in a cold cave, and when he wrote it that place would have been a cold cave. I see no reason for it to be moved, and several implications of it staying there.

I know the feeling. I was so close to just picking Zane, but the whole cutting myself and homicidal sides nudged me the other way.

It is a little harder to move a huge steel plate out of a cave than to move a logbook though. And if you think about it, it makes sense that Kwann would be hiding either in or around then-Terris, making it close enough to Luthadel to not be destroyed. (And for the record, Alendi was at Kredik Shaw, but because the Well of Ascension is there, not because of the logbook.)

See me, on the other hand, consider myself more than arrogant enough to pick Kell regardless of whether or not I think I'm a genius. But if I wasn't Kell, I'd be Zane, for sure.

Jonathan,

Sorry to take so long on the reply!  Sometimes, my inbox is kind of daunting.

A mistcloak would be hard to get right.  I've seen several people try, and they never quite feel right to me.  Maybe they are one of those things that work in my imagination, but might not work in the real world.

What I would be looking for is something enveloping, something grand, yet also much more light-weight than most of the ones that people have made.  I know that Vin describes hers as heavy, but that's all relative.

But here's my best answer to your questions:

Colors:  All the same shade of dark, charcoal gray.
How wide are the strips:  Between a half an inch and an inch wide.
Material:  Cotton, perhaps.  Lighter than canvas or wool, for certain. However, I do imagine each tassel being sewn individually, perhaps with a thicker back and an inside that is of something softer and lightweight.
Are all the tassels the same length:  No, but close.  Within an inch or two of one another.
Do they drag:  No.  They're cut so that they obscure the feet, but don't drag.
How many layers of tassels:  1 and a half.

The real trick, I think, to making one work would be to, in my opinion, make a cloak which looks cool on its own.  Then, slit the bottom 2/3rds up to about the rib-cage area.  Sew these into tassels, then sew some more tassels to the inside.  Then, perhaps work with the shoulders/inner layers to make the cloak fall down so that it looks enveloping and the sides can fall straight.

Does that help?

Best,

Brandon

The release date for MISTBORN: THE HERO OF AGES--third and final of the Mistborn books--is October 14th!  We almost hit the NYT Bestseller list on Book Two, so we're really hoping for an explosive first week for Book Three.  With just a few hundred more copies, we'll make it!

    Mr. Sanderson,

What exactly are the specifications to make a mistcloak? From the book I can gather that they're long strips of material sewn together across the shoulders, chest, and top hem, and that they're made to blend in with the mists.     But what color(s) exactly are they? Some parts of the book mention black while others deem it gray. Are the colors mixed? If so, are they mixed in any particular fashion, or just randomly on a tassel by tassel basis?
Is there any particular material the cloak is made out of? How wide and/or tall are each of the strips? Are all the tassels a uniform length/width? How many layers deep is a mistcloak? Should some of the tassels drag on the ground, rest on it, or they all float around?
I know it's a somewhat odd group of questions, but any additional information you can provide me with will be of much help, and that information like this combined with a trip to the local fabric store and some tedious sewing will net me this year's coolest Halloween costume.

                     Thanks in advance,

                          Jonathan
