Avalanche!
« on: June 09, 2005, 11:09:53 AM »
I wasn't sure which section to post this thread in, so I closed my eyes and picked one at random.

A while back, MulchNator asked me if I could say anything about what I was working on, or any news about what I was up to in the video game industry. And I had to be all mysterious and say nothing and only hint at further revelations.

Well, today I can spill the news. I have accepted a position at Avalanche Software and my family and I will be moving back to Salt Lake City. I will be working as a Game Designer for Avalanche, the creators of Tak and the Power of Juju, among other titles. They were recently acquired by Beuna Vista Group, the videogame division of Disney, so I'll be working on Disney titles for the foreseeable future. And not only is Avalanche a great studio, but I've got several friends already working there, and I'm excited to be able to work with them again.

Needless to say, we are not only very excited about my new job, but also about being able to return to Salt Lake City, and be back with friends and family. My family flies out next Wednesday (the 15th). I'll be leaving on the following Saturday (the 18th) after the movers are all done loading everything up. I'll be taking Grr (our Boston Terrier) and Dexter (our Bearded Dragon) with me in the car. I'll first drive out to Lincoln and stay there a few days, and help out around the house a bit for my mom and hang out with my brother MoreDew. Then I'll make the rest of the trip to Salt Lake.

We're going to miss North Carolina. We've had a great time out here. We love the area, and our friends that we've met out here. I've had a great time working for Vicious Cycle. And I think I can say this without breaking any confidetiality contracts: I think it's safe to say that we're going to see some big things coming out of Vicious Cycle in the future. They're going to be a developer to keep an eye on.

So there you have it. No earth-shattering game news, but big news personally. A move across the country, a new job and new projects to work on.

You know you want to join us, SE!

Honestly, I hope to be a TWG-Easter again someday. But I'm liking Seattle a lot.

Congrats, N8!

My buddy Mike use to work for them.  He now works for NetDevil as an artist for Auto Assault.

Anyway Congrats Nate, I was going to bring up your "announcement" next week to see what it was.

I'll probably be back in Montréal for quite a bit this next year.  Does that make you feel any better?  It's out east . . .

Dude any place that speaks French isn't some place I'd like to hang.  Because I don't speak French and it would be awkward.

Having spent several weeks in Québec, I can assure you that they do not speak French there.  Well, at least nothing I can understand.

It took me a week just to realize that "douie" was somehow supposed to mean "two" (deux).

However, you can buy French books and films in the city, and that makes it all worth it.  My copy of the extended edition of LotR is complete with everything the American version has + French audio.  Really, Americans get shafted compared to the Canadians when it comes to DVDs.
