Title: Transformers LIVE ACTION Movie?
Post by: mulchNator on April 22, 2005, 12:51:02 PM
Anybody heard anything on this topic?  I have heard it rummored that James Cameron will be directing?  I have also heard that Dreamworks has signed a contract with Hasbro to make this movie happen?

I haven't heard much, though I heard a rumor it was in the works before. I think my conclusions are still this:

When all your main characters and villains are all going to be CGI to look good at all, it's not really a live action movie.

Also, I don't think I've liked anything James Cameron has done for a long, long time.

correction: IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0418279/) has some info on the movie.

at this point, Cameron has no role. Michael Bay is directing. Bay has a hit and miss record: He's responsible for Pearl Harbor, The Rock, Armageddon, and Bad Boys. *shrug* we'll see.

Everytime a movie has the potential to be amazing, though, I have a tendency to wish that Peter Jackson was doign it now...

I've been watching this sence it got a screen writer over 6 months ago.  Speilburg is a producer on it which makes me happy.

The writers are a mixed bunch but there are more good films then bad.  One of them is the guy who did  Catwoman, american outlaws and some other stinkers while on the other hand the second writer is the guy who wrote all 3 X-Men movies.

Karen says: Copy that plot outline!

"A live-action version of the original Transformers TV series involves an alien race of robots called the Autobots and the Decepticons crash landing on Earth where they battle for the ultimate power source: Energon. "

If they actually used this plot, that would be good. I'm tired of movies based on old TV shows that I liked that try to put a TWIST in the plot. Some examples:

Inspector Gadget: We wanted to see Penny and Brain save the day. We did NOT want to see Inspector Gadget's love life, or CLAW'S FACE!!!

Lost in Space: We wanted to see "DANGER, WILL ROBINSON!" We did NOT want to see Will all grown up with a nasty BEARD and half SPIDERman weirdness!

Scooby Doo: We wanted to see "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you nosy kids!!" We did NOT want to see SCRAPPY as the VILLAIN?! (Scrappy AT ALL?!)

Discuss.

ok, I didn't want to see Inspector Gadget at all. and Scrappy was in Scooby-Doo? Now I'm finally glad I didn't see it.

(note, the above post was all dictated by Karen.)

I was stoked for Inspector Gadget when it came out. And then was very upset with the final result. The cartoon was cool, but the movie sucked.

I loved the first Scooby Movie, I never saw it until about a month ago when it was on Nickalodeon and I was laughing my but off at Scrappy being the villian.   The people who did that movie managed to make it just like the cartoon in almost all respects while takeing the thing all Scooby fans hated, scrappy, and makeing fun of him.

Actualy Karen has the movie plot wrong, they've allready talked about it on RT and other movie sites.  Energon dosne't seam to have much to do with it.

I have to say, I agree with Ookla.

There is a certain amount of nostalgia I exect to see fullfilled in these types of movies.

Being post-modern and cynical about the shows just doesn't appeal to me.

That's just the plot summary on IMDB, so it must be wrong then. I haven't read anything about it anywhere else.

I really, really, really hope that they don't screw this one up.  I am a fan from 9 years old!  Right now I feel really, really old, Aiigggcckk!  The newer Transformers Garb floating around is not the best, and I stress that when I say it.  It's OK, but nothing like what I grew up watching.  All of the characters from generation one need to be revisted! 8) ;D :o

The toys are actually pretty cool, imo.

That is another good valid point.  The toys are indeed very awesome.  I still have all of the transformers that I collected when I was a kid.  They are all tightly packaged and in storage in a safe place!

Has anyone heard if they plan to release the entire first generation in toys again?  I know they have already released a couple of them revisted like Hound for example.  They updated they style of jeep that he transforms into as well!  Very cool stuff, very cool indeed!

They do have several of the classics.

1) updated Optimus Prime and Megatron are available (at something like $50 a pop, i've been unable to convince my wife this is needed).

2) they have a small series of "classic" transformers. I've seen a couple of generic autobots and some of the jets. None of them were spectacularly interesting, since I didn't liek the way the regular jets transformed. (could they at LEAST have given them wings?)

I would agree that the jets are kind of stupid looking, and do transform strange in the toy versions.  They are nothing like they are in the shows.  The remakes of Prowl, Hound, Ironhide, Sideswipe all look pretty cool though.  They did pretty good with these updated versions.  Have not seen the Optimus Prime, or Megatron yet?

I would definitely tell the wife this is important!

How are our children supposed to be raised right without the proper SCI-FI brainwashing? ;D

I would say they could not be raised properly. But my wife cannot be made to see reason.

I've seen prime and Megatron. They look cool. I definitely want them. The cars, yes, look pretty good. I keep thinking of grabbing them.

I say DO IT don't think about it!  This is Transformers man!  I say negotiate a trade, you know how it works.  Women love to go shopping, or just to shop period.  Let her spend the same amount that you spend, she should agree with that? ;D

probably not. She's the money conscious one. Oh, there's lots of stuff she wants. but she won't spend it till it's in the budget.

It doesn't pay to be money concious, that's what credit cards are for!  Just kidding!
