on a similar but unrelated note, there have apparently been several (as in, a bunch, not just a half dozen) information thefts from US Department of State computers around the world, including HQ here in DC. WTOP reports that the hacking appeared to focus on data about China and North Korea.
Is this worrisome to anyone else?

I heard about that this morning, my understanding was that they did not get any major information as they discovered the leak and sealed it off.
I am not terribly worried, however I think that better measures should be taken to protect the information before hand.
It probably was the NK government. We should fire a couple of nukes just off their shore to show them we mean business.
Did you know it is illegal to detonate nuclear weapons in the state of Utah? No law against having them, you just can't detonate them. Kinda makes me wanna join the arms race! :P

The State Deparment actually hasn't said what was taken, as of yesterday the comment is "we don't know yet".

No, because in order to fire it, I would have to attatch it to a missle or a rocket, missles are rockets with guidance which are illegal, a rocket is totally legal but I can only go so high without getting FAA clearance. Once you get that, you're good.
Hmm... now that I hear the state isn't sure what is taken I am a little more concerned.

it doesn't have to be a *big* nuke. A small lightweight one might not have the wholesale destruction that most warheads carried by ICBMs, but it's still going to do some nasty damage.

Hey, people should be careful about bashing Wyoming. There is some stuff in in Wyoming, well northern Wyoming... okay, make that northwest Wyoming where Yellowstone is. Wait, we can make Yellowstone part of Idaho or Montana and then there would be nothing in Wyoming. Problem solved.

I don't know... If Wyoming went up, I saw on Discovery that there is a giant caldera there that would take out the whole Western half of the United States if it went up. Of course... that would be nice for the people in Oregon, Washington and California that would be spared from dying in the Earthquakes and Tsunamis that occured from all the faults on that side of the world.
And don't think you Easterners think you are safe, think again, the Canary islands have a volcano that is just waiting to erupt and slide a good quarter of it into the ocean causing a wave that would destroy the entire Eastern Coastline 12 miles inland.
That's if the Celestial bodies don't hit first, or global warming or tornados or plagues of scorpins ("not if... When!")
Man, I get depressed everytime I watch Discovery.

I think I can pretty much do without the Eastern Shore or Outer Banks if it means I don't have to deal with the west. Fair trade.

I know people from the Eastern Shore. I'll admit that they were a little strange, but I just assumed it was because they were Easterners. No, the Eastern Shore and Outer Banks for the West is just not a fair deal (the West is worth a lot more). Throw in NYC, Phili, West Virginia, NJ, NH, Vermont and Maine then you might have a deal.

I have no problem parting with Philly or NYC. I can't imagine why you think any part of the west is remotely worth an acre of land in Vermont or New Hampshire, though. Sure, they're infested with yankee scum, but they're pretty, and the yankee scum have pretty much become harmless in the last hundred years. West Virginia is a freaky place, but pretty in it's own way.
Eastern shore and Outer Banks, however, either one is more than worth most territory west of the Mississippi. I'm being generous with that offer.

E, it is obvious that you have not explored the West. The Pacific Northwest is easily worth twice as much Vermont, NW, and West Virginia combined. Also, I'll admit that the little hills in West Virginia are pretty but Colorado's mountains are more awe inspiring.
The West is a lot more than Utah, Idaho and some weird people from California. Although, I would be will the trade Idaho for the Eastern Shore.

oh, i've been around the west. So "it's obvious" you're wrong. There's some pretty stuff. but i think you over rate your mountains. By at least 300%.
You're right, it's more than Utah, Idaho, and Cali. It's also got Montana, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming. All of which I would ditch in half a second. Parts of Arizona are kind of nice.

Look, E, I know you love the East coast and my wife was born and raised in the D.C. area, but I still hold that the West has a lot more to offer than a lot of Easterns realize. At least my wife and her family now appreciate the West and will never move back to the East, which they claim is over industrialized, over priced, crowded and polluted. So I can ignore Easterners like you E, who significantly undervalue the West and overvalue the East Coast.

counter example: my inlaws and my parents were born and raised in the west. I also have lived in the west for a good third of my life. And have no desire to move back, because it's over rated, socially bizarre, and barren. So I suppose your foolishness about the east is likewise ignorant. Frankly, most of the claims you make about the east coast's problems are bizarrely absurd.
