Mmmmmm, so I broke down and bought the game yesterday. Since I'll be getting a $20 gift-voucher. Essentially I still spent $40, but I'm getting a free $20 to spend on my next EB purchase. ANYWHO.

So the game. Yeah, it's rocking. Boats, planes, automobiles. Guns, rugs, and even the kitchen sink. You thought 1942 was crazy, well, jungle warfare is well represented in this insane follow-up to DICE's BF: 1942. During loadtime you're presented with a screen with detailed information on some subject of Vietnam. Either the people, the weapons used, or the culture of Vietnam and America during the time.

In what I've played (singleplayer) for the US side there are different forces represented. From the 5th Cav. Division, to the South Vietnamese forces. And you can also choose from a limted set of body type(2) and then two head types to go with the body. Much like 1942, you have your spawn screen. But the difference here is how you choose your gear (a tad). There are 4 'classes' (no medic, that peeves me off), assault, engineer, heavy equip, and sniper. Within each of those you can choose from 2 different sets of weapons. Pretty nifty.

Maps are large and full of detail. You have to constantly be aware of every aspect of your surroundings, else you be dead. Don't really know what else to say other than, if you liked 1942 you'll love this game.

The helicopters are crap, nowhere near as elite as the ones in DC. And what the hell is up with those rockets? You fire them and they go straight into a friendly tank?!? Newbie ass things.

Maybe thats your problem. I like the Huey's in BF Vietnam. I do not like the ones in DC. WAY too complex. And so it goes.

The first patch came out a few days ago, and the major fix I noticed is that they removed the M60 from the LAW kit. It's about time.

From the readme (I love the first fix =P):

-Player number now displays properly if more than 10000 players.
-Soldier prediction fixed to remove jerky movements when walking/jumping.
-M60 removed from the LAW kit and replaced with M14.
-M60 and RPD min/max bullet deviation increased when standing/moving.
-M60 and RPD max bullet deviation decreased slightly when prone.
-Rate of fire and velocity of M60/RPD adjusted.
-Player movement speeds on Heavy Assault kits reduced slightly.
-Network overhead of vehicle engines and airlifting significantly reduced.
-Added minimap warning icon when enemies are within capture radius of an
opposing team flag.

I haven't noticed the numerous heavy weapon tweaks that much, but the warning icons are pretty handy. I'll try out the new LAW kit and altereed M60 kit tonight and see what I get.
