ARgh. For some reason, whenever i type either ' or - on this forum, it changes it to "–". I have to edit the post and change them back into - and '. No doubt i will have to do it for this post. Wierd, it goes gay on the initial posting, but it posts them normally on subsequent edits.

I've had a similar problem with quotation marks, single or double. With my problem, I found out it was because of Microsoft word's smart-quotes encoding. If I wrote something in Word (so I could spellcheck it) then pasted it here, sometimes it messed up the quotes. If I first pasted it in a text-only program, like notepad, then cut it again and pasted it into here, it never made the error.

The ' marks I believe come from the way variables are handled in Yabb. But the - thing I've never seen or heard of before. I looks like the post got everything right the first time when you posted this time. Do you only see that problem when you post pre-written things into the forum?
-
Yeah. It pretty much always happens if i copy/paste it.

Well, unfortunately there's not much I can do about that. Microsoft stuff uses weird character encoding for most special characters, so if you paste those in to IE, it'll send them right along and get mangled the poor Perl/Unix server.
The best thing you can do is get a straight text editor and copy things from there. Notepad works for this, but I'd highly recommend SciTE.

What is SciTE and why do you recommend it?
Thanks.

Remember, google is your friend:

SciTE is just a text editor, but it's a very friendly and useful one.

Google is so not my friend. I try searching for Palm software/freeware and I get a bunch of crazy-go-nothing sites that don't really add up to much of anything.
-
Now is that friendly to you Tage, or to English majors too? ;) Thanks for the tip.
-
Gemm's Google-Fu is weak. Tage has powerful Google-Fu. All hail Tage.
...
Actually, sod that.

Notepad does what I want
And I don't know about English majors, but CmLit majors do all right by google, even finding out of print copies of Star warriors pretty quick.

I was actually referring to SciTE. And I love Notepad, but it's so . . . black and white.
