Two things: if Peter's sister reads this, welcome! I live in Seattle! It's great that we live so close.
My semi-rant for the night: who the heck do I know in Nebraska? I got a missed call on my cell today from the 402 area code. I got sidetracked from tracking it down till now, but they didn't leave a voicemail, so it was probably a wrong number. Funniest thing about that was as I was trying to access my menu to see about it, a guy in my ward called. So I was thinking, "But I didn't hit the button to call Ryan! What's this phone doing?" So I hung up on him, thinking I had accidentally called him. Whoops. He called back, which is a good thing, because he's the one with the info on the folk music festival this weekend. I'm jumping right into the music scene in Seattle.
Speaking of which, you guys coming to Cascadiacon will get here right during the middle of Bumbershoot, which is supposed to be the Seattle music festival to go to. Ryan, the folk guy, says that he actually prefers Folklife (this weekend), and I have a feeling I'm going to agree, because I prefer folk to alternative. But I'm going to experience both.
You know, somebody should be visiting me this weekend. It's Memorial Day weekend! Come to Seattle, play on the beach, go to a folk music festival, and go hiking with me on Monday! The weather is finally absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait for my bike to get here so I can go riding up along the coast.

As a Bumbershoot veteran of many years, I have to say that it's pretty awesome.
Indeed, it was during Bumbershoot 1990 that me and a friend snuck into the "Miller High Life" Rock Stage (certain venues are age-restricted to allow drinking) and caught my first taste of the Young Fresh Fellows. Ah, those were the days.

I got a call the other day from a guy who left a nearly unintelligible message--"Hi, this is mumble, mumble mumble mumble... just calling to say hi..." and then a phone number with an area code. I googled it out of curiosity, and got a divorce attorney in Massachussets. That was a little weird. But he never called back, so I'm assuming it was a wrong number. Heh.
My husband was working on a PhD in folklore (which it looks like he's not going to finish--dissertation woes) and has been into folk music for a long time. He plays the fiddle fairly well and an assortment of odd instruments somewhat less well.
Where are you going hiking? ;D

It fell through. Instead, I'm going camping tonight at Oceanside. I may or may not be back in time for Folklife tomorrow afternoon like we originally planned, so if not, I'll head over there on Monday. But then there's a jet-skiing thing on Monday, too, so... Actually, I think I'd still go for Folklife rather than jetskiing, honestly. Especially since we'll be at the ocean tonight. Anyway, I'll be in the great outdoors again! Yay!

I would pick jetskiing. Jetskiing is a passion of mine which, sadly, I only get to do once a year at a family cabin up in Island Park, Idaho. This year I'm dragging EUOL along...should be fun! ;)

So I actually ended up getting back in time to go to Folklife, but we didn't get there till about 8, so we only had enough time to walk around for a while and grab something to eat before everything shut down. But he showed me a lot of Seattle stuff, and it was still a good evening. So, best of both worlds. It was sunny and hot in Seattle, but cloudy and cold on the coast. Not rainy, but almost soggy because of the dew at the campsite.
I live in a very gorgeous place. This makes me very satisfied.

I'm glad to hear you had a good time! We've been here for almost five years now. Coming from Newfoundland I'm afraid I made some rather unfavorable comparisons, but the place has grown on me.
Have you checked out the Underground Tour in Seattle? I hear it's great fun.
We're probably going up to Mt. Rainier tomorrow. Wheee!
