One Republic: Say (All I Need)
"Magic is what makes fantasy fantastic," someone says, "you can't apply rules to them or else it loses wonder!" I respond, "Sure, but if you want to write them you will certainly want to know how they work." Writing is all about execution, and I find applying some basic laws of physics to magic systems make them more understandable and realistic. Here, I'm going to outline my basic method for developing a magic system.

Have you enjoyed Robert Newcomb's books, Lightningfall? I've read The Fifth Sorceress and tried The Gates of Dawn, but I could never really get into the series. And I've heard that the other books are a lot like. What's your opinion.I, personally, enjoy his books quite a bit. Though he does, as you say, have a morbid fascination with blood.
Downloaded some Nightwish to check em out. Love 'em! Fits right into my current trend. Though, I like Tarja (sp?) a lot more than the new singer they got. Only problem is I could only get the album Once on iTunes with her as lead vocals. So I jumped onto Amazon and think I'll grab the rest of the early works today.I'm glad you like them. I like Tarja but, I also enjoy the new singer as well.
As much as I enjoyed the Lioness quartet, there are references to sex. Just be advised if you do go down that path.Quite right. I had completely forgotten about that. However, if memory serves, the Immortal series doesn't. And I know that the Circle of Magic series is free of it.
