Title: Writers
Post by: Entsuropi on April 29, 2003, 01:26:58 PM
Hm. There is a new chap by the name of  Micah Demoux. He's the guy who wrote the fiend folio and the D&D stuff book. Sorry, equipment/arms book.

Hes a new writer (i think) and seems to be pretty good at it, although i could hope for more detail. He is not a forum guy, is he?

He's actually my roommate. No, he never visits the forums, but he's not a new TWG writer. I could tell him to check the forum, though, if you have some specific comments for him.

Ah, nah. I was just fishing for info.

Tell him the masses demand more reviews! Gimme gimme!  :)

And tell him the editor demands longer reviews. Gimme gimme!

I liked the short reviews. Quick and to the point. None of that beating around the bush like the others. Gimme gimme!  ;D

He's also Tage and my GM.  Nice chap.  Just blew a wad on a PC so he could play Dark Age of Camelot.  Once he gets his photography site up and running, you should all go look at his pictures.

Hi, everyone, its me, MICAH!  FYI, as you can see, i am not Tage.  EVOL is smokin' something.  Tage is his other roomie.  If you want longer reviews, let me know what kind of info you would like...Just keep in mind that some books just don't fit well for long reviews, i.e. the Fiend Folio (what do you say...just list the monsters...its either got lotsa good or lotsa crappy monsters or somewhere in between...not much to say except what the good/bad split is).  For a longer review, see my upcoming article on the Unapproachable East.  Let me know if that is more your style.

Thanks for the feedback.

Typos are implied by the very presence of a sanderson. We plan ahead accordingly.

And heh... i just did a 2 page (in standard word format) review on a 24 page RPG...

Tiger, I'm glad that you liked Unapproachable East, since that (combined with my distaste for setting sourcebooks of all sorts) is what led to my acquisition of my "nerd dice"

I would like to point out that I made no typo, nor am I smoking anything.

"When two or more people or things possess something jointly, add the -'s or apostrophe to the last element only: Martha and Dan's house."--the American Heritage book of English Usage.

(Or, in the case of the first person, 'my' replaces the possessive in the second instance.)

'Tage and my DM' therefore refers to the DM belonging to Tage and myself, and does not imply that Micah is Tage.

Yes it does imply that Micah is Tage, because implication is primarily in the mind of the reader. While your sentence was technically correct, it would be more clear to say "Micah is the GM for Tage and I."

It would be even more correct to say, "Micah lives with Tage and I in a fetid parody of normal life, wracked by the poison winds of an unfeeling storm," but that is neither here nor there.

yeah, no one was mocking your grammatical correctness. (though we are now). We were mocking the vagaries of the sentence.

And I have to point out, just to add to the grammatical pickiness, that it would be "with Tage and me," not "with Tage and I." Object and all that.

I is always more correct than me. No it's not, shut up! You shut up, freak! Oh, I'm the freak now? Who's the one talking to himself?

Text makes implications, Fell, people make inferences.  Implications can't be only in the mind, since they must be drawn from the text.  Therefore, since the text was correct, it did not imply that Micah was Tage, regardless of what people inferred.

And *I'm* the one who worries too much about semantics.

Yeah. Right.

EOUL has some...issues about others not interpreting his text as he interprets them.

Just walk away very slowly and don't make eye contact.

Ah, 42.  When will you learn that it's not about the semantics, and it's not about the interpretations.  It's about one thing: how much fun was the argument?

I think he knows that unconsciously. he does it enough.

Yeah, nice excuse EUOL. You just keep believing that. No body wants to upset you here. The little semantics and interpretation monsters aren't going to hurt you. Well, actually they might, but you shouldn't worry about that.

Things to do today.
