The Aviator
« on: January 21, 2005, 10:04:39 PM »
So I just went to see this movie. Not intentionally--we meant to go see National Treasure, and I mistakenly took my new roommate to the wrong theater.  :( But I must say that Leo did a better job than I expected, so I don't begrudge the Golden Globe he just won. And what's-her-name playing Kate Hepburn--good job, very fun to listen to her.

And man, Howard Hughes had to have had every mental illness in the books. Obsessive compulsion, paranoia, agoraphobia, hallucinations... I felt so badly for him. I hope that he was able to get meds later in his life--it must have been a hard life.

He wasnt agoraphobic, just afraid of people, he loved flying and open spaces...

but yeah, he never got good meds, and basically became a hermit in the penthouse of a vegas hotel.

I will say that its funny that both Pan Am and TWA no longer exist.

So what's the word for being afraid of crowds? I thought it was agoraphobic.

I think being afraid of crowds is part of claustrophobia?  It is in my husband anyway.

Agoraphobia is fear of open spaces.

Actually, agoraphobia has little to do with open spaces.
Here's the definition according to the Mental Health Institute.

How do you go to the wrong theater and why didn't you just leave and find the right movie?

I had searched on Fandango, and for some reason I was thinking the Copley Square theatre is the one near my school. I have no idea--I know better. But by that time, it was the exact time for the movie to start, and by the time we got on the T and got to the right theatre, it would have been too late. So we just chose a movie that was showing at the one we were at.
