Title: TWG Gaming night
Post by: Spriggan on August 30, 2003, 06:16:06 AM
Considering how successful are recent magic games have been for drawing in the people me and Fell decided that haveing a monthly TWG gamming night.  We'll have one or two main things going on each time like magic drafts or mage knight/heroclix, and will most likely be takeing place the last weekend of each month at the cottentree.  But if there are other activites that warrent a different setup then we'll announce it (IE my place for an anime or video game night).  You don't need to be a staff member here or even a frequent poster, just someone who wants to have fun playing games.  Next months will be the Mirage pre-release roadtrip unless people want to get together for something else.  If you have ideas of what you want to do feel free to post them here.

For non-Utah TWGer's:  We realise that you would want to come hang outwith us and have not forgotten you.  Please apply for our TWG party pack that include such things as: A life size card board cut out of our beloved editor Fell as well as 5x10 glossies of Tage (left over from the Tage fanclub).  note: subject to chage and all applications must include $1000 usda for consideration.

There's also TWG-East, folks, which right now includes most (not all) of our little organization living outside of Utah on two sides of an ocean. It's hard for us to get together, but Jeffe and I live close, and keep trying to get our gaming group The Dirty Kobolds to meet somewhere in the Northern Virginia area. contact us if you're in the area and want to hang. I have a bunch of new stuff that needs playtesting (like Buttonlords, Duel of Ages, and some Cheapass Games).

It's actually the Mirrodin pre-release, since Mirage is several years old.

So do I pay that in rump roast or flank steak?

usda means US Dollar.

no, USD means US Dollar. USDA is a food regulatory service in the US. As in USDA approved.

Lol! Spriggan is the funny guy! He makes my socks knock off themselves. Sometimes I'll need a laugh and Spriggan pops in my mind and says something like "$1000 usda" and mean money. Heheheheh.

I'd take a thousand bucks of USDA currency. Too bad Paypal doesn't accept meat.

I'd like to congradulate Fell, EUOL, and Promethious for kicking butt at the Pre-release.  Fell went 4-0 with 1 draw, EUOL 4-1 and Promethious 3-2.

Considering that me and Fell don't have our RPG group for the next two weeks I think we need to have a TWG gamming nite sometime.  Any takers?

Just a quick tangent - at rehearsal tonight I learned how to eat fire!  How cool is that?

Wait - that's Halloween.  Well my wife's stuck helping out backstage with an opera at BYU and I'm not doing anything else.  If anyone is up for something I'm game.

I think 42 is planning on renting some scary movies or something like that on Halloween, your welcome to come over here.  I'm sure Promethius would love to have an excuse to pull out his magic cards.

Post by: 42 on October 27, 2003, 10:19:47 PM
Yes, I am thinking about renting some movies for Halloween, preferably horror flicks.

I'm having a hard time selecting the venue.
I'm strongly looking at the movie Willard. It has really good reviews and it fits the theme.

Promethues suggested the award-winning TV Mini-Series, Taken. However, it is 20 hours long.

Course, there is the stuff lying around the apartment, Signs, Sixth Sense, the Mummy, Vampire Hunter D, Buffy, Angeletc...

I also like really good classic horror/suspense flicks.

So suggestions are welcome.

Of course, there are plenty of games lying around the apartment as well.

You know, the worst part about World Fantasy is the timing.  I mean, who decided to have this thing on Halloween every year?  Shame on you David Hartwell!

To be honest, I never cared for horror flicks.  I'm always up for a good game, though.  Whatever.

42, I suggest Hitchcock! He's my favorite!

So how many of you locals are going to be around for New Years Eve?  If there are enough of us we can get together at the Cotten Tree like we did 2 years ago.

I will be, and I'd certainly be up for a nerd party on New Year's Eve.

Sounds like a good idea to me, though I can't guarantee anything until I talk to my wife. And find a babysitter.

On a similar note, I'm in the mood for some Magic, having just HTML-ized another one of Prometheus' articles. What do you say we show up early for D&D tonight and play a game or two? Make sure to let Prometheus know, and anyone else (such as Kije) is free to come as well.

Vermin. I guess this is what comes of not getting home till nearly 7 PM. I'll likely be around at New Year's, more 'cause I don't have anywhere to go, but hey...there is there.

We'll be watching movies and playing games.  Steve just bought the Civilization board game (based of the VG) and it looks fun, the game baord is huge.  And I;m sure we can get Fell to bring his new Axies and Allies game (if he has it by then).  I'll being my Mage Knight 2.0 figs.  I'm sure there will be plenty of MTG going on as well, however it wont be a booster draft so bring your own cards.

I'd like to come but we'll still be in Ohio.  Kinda bummed, because it would be nice to have a NYE party that J.T. and I *both* enjoy, since our ideas of the term "party" are surprisingly different.

Just a note, Sprig:  Earl is throwing a big Christmas party at our house, and last I heard, Tage and Micah were being tempted away from the Cottontree to join in the festivities here.

I so want to be there...

Alas, I married outside the faith.  That is to say, my wife doesn't like games.  Not even party games or social games.  And I don't think I could convince her that she needed to come play with all of us, or that she should go somewhere else while I play at the "nerd party" as Tage so lovingly put it.  Alas...

You have to find out about gaming before you fall in love. If you do it after it's too late.

yeah, right... that's it.

To be honest, though, my gaming and SF interest were in remission when I courted my wife for the final time. You guys are all directly responsible for reawakening all of it. When we came back to Provo after our marriage, I saw the poster for TLE, so I showed up. The rest is history.

One thing we could consider for the New Year's party is having a bout of Emperor games. MTG.com has been sporting a number of articles about Emperor games over the last few weeks, and that seems like it'd be an interesting change to the standard chaos format our games typically run.

Anyone interested? The articles I've been reading are here:

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/columnarchive&column=SeriousFun

and they give a good enough explanation of the format that we could figure out the rules. We could set up teams ahead of time. If extra decks are needed I could provide a few.

As long as we're talking about various games we could play, I'd be up for a short RPG session too. I'll get more people to agree if I leave the game system we would use open, but even if it is just a high-power character brawl, it could be great fun.

it's not you Promethious, it the fact that Earl is haveing a party at his house and with out the people that will be going to that there's only 3 people that would come to the cottentree.  So TWG newyears is pretty much dead.

Yeah, but killing threads isn't much fun. It's like playing solitaire on a message board.
