Hero (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0299977/) is opening this weekend, to my great delight. If I can come up with the money for a ticket, who wants to see it with me? We could organize a group and get together in Salt Lake.
Or maybe you've all already downloaded it off the net and seen it. Shame on you...
-
RT still lists it as a 'Limited' release. I'm assuming that it's going to come to Salt Lake, at least--they've been publicizing it here, after all. However, after Shoulin Soccer's failure to come here, I've been wary.
-
Ya it's comming here. Shaolin Soccer never had TV adds spamed on all the channels or during the olympics. I tried checking what theaters have it and it's too early, the sites I went too don't have any listings for this weekend. Looks like they only update 3 days or so ahead of time.
-
I would go, but I'm working all week, and moving on Saturday...
:-/
-
Just thought I'd list when I can see the movie
Friday afternoon or anytime Saturday.
I work firday so anytime after 6pm is out for me.
-
Even if I'm able to go, I wouldn't be able to reach SLC until almost 7 Friday (Saturday is right out), and I don't want to drive all the way to Provo.
-
I downloaded Hero while I was in Japan. Overall I wasn't very satisfied with it, because of the basic plot structure. It's got lots of cool stuff in it though.
Jet Li's voice seems pitched much higher in Chinese than in English.

Ya Chinese is like Japanese that way. How many americans do you know when they speak Japanese their voice goes up a few octives? I know it took me several months of activly listening to my voice to get the two relativly close. (and yes it did bug me that my voice was higher when I spoke it).
And Fell, it's too bad you cannot comedown friday and stay over night again. But none of here would expect you to do so considering what the misses just went through. If you haven't seen it allready you should read yesterdays PA, I can see Fell in this perdicament. http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2004/20040823l.jpg

Well, I'm working Saturday evening and Friday I'm probably running my RPG. Saturday Morning might work for me, but I have to be at work by 3. Anybody up for a mid-week viewing?
-
Well, my plans have changed. I'm now working saturday morning so I'll be gaming saturday evening. So I'm up for seeing Hero on friday evening. It's playing at 7:00 at Thanksgiving Point and Jordan Landing. Any takers?
-
Eh. Looks like it's coming to Provo. I'll see it here.
-
And it's coming to Logan, miracle of miracles. I'll just see it here, and forget you people.

My wife and I just saw it, and it blew us away. Halfway through I was starting to wonder if it was really going to go anywhere, and then it did, and by the end it was far more than I ever expected it to be. Extremely powerful (my wife was crying), very thought-provoking, and one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen.
-
I sawa it yesterday too. It's very artsy. I enjoyed it a lot, though I kind of felt like I had just watched two hours of Chinese propaganda. Still, the movie is very well done.
-
I liked it a lot. My friend however was crying, over there being little to no spilt blood. That was most of his comments during the movie. Usually he does nothing but talk during movies (sometimes), but this time he was pretty silent.
I can see where you are coming from for the propaganda lines 42. Yes. I loved how artsy it was and the lighting and the cinematography. It wasn't as much fun as AvP, but it had that "I love it so much I will read the subtitles" appeal to it. It also made me realize I like Chinese speech a lot more than Japanese speech.
-
Most giant epics give you the same feel: Braveheart, The Patriot--Independence Day and Air Force One even had US Presidents as main action heroes. (Though Air Force One could not, admittedly, be considered a giant epic.)
-

Agreed. That whole "the suffering of one doesn't outweigh the good of the country" line was part of it, and I'll admit that the entire movie made me a little uncomfortable. If it's noble to conquer everyone else so you can force them not to fight, then what's to keep China from deciding to conquer the world in a few decades....
Regardless, the movie was beautiful and interesting.

I find that very interesting, because Dawn and I got a completely different message from it. This isn't a spoiler thread, so I won't go into it too much, but for us the movie focused on putting down your sword far more than on taking it up. I'm very surprised that any of it made you uncomfortable.
