Webcomics & Free Stuff / Re: 8 bit theatre.....the end?
« on: December 16, 2008, 06:33:36 PM »
I love 8 bit theater.  I'm not fully up to date, but I go and read the newest few every now and again and was laughing pretty hardcore when I read the post about the fake ending.

Well played.  I still show all my friends the first 10-15 strips of that comic.  Fighter+MB is epic.

Hi, I'm SirZelig and I am a Final Fantasy XI addict......

Haha.  A friend of mine tells me he still has FF XI dreams every now and again.  It looked like a cool game, it just seemed a bit too slow paced for me (combat wasn't quick enough).  That's why I still can't quite get into the FF games at all.

Now Star Ocean--that's a different story.  Go go Enix.

The main reasons the sequals to SoT weren't up to snuff was the guy who owns the IP wrote the SoT script (as well as the new PoP and is the guy who coded the original game) and he didn't have any involvement in the sequals.

Ohh.  Well, that's good news.  Do you know if the original guy is writing the other two parts of this trilogy as well?

BTW, you gotten the game yet Sprig?

I hope the title doesn't get changed because the big reveal of in the last part, of who Warbreaker was, was one of my favorite moments, as well as Lightsong's final act. It made everything make so much sense
The cover art is beautifully done - it'll be great to have the book in hardback instead of in Microsoft Word!

One thing that was odd was "BioChroma" sounds a little too modern and technical, too Latin/Greek. It's weird when you expect all fantasy to be like Lord of the Rings or King Arthur. But it's not a big deal, it's good to be suprised.

I never quite understood the differences between Tones and Colors though. Maybe I read too fast.

Yeah, both those moments were epic for me.  I still picture that moment (the Warbreaker reveal) in my mind all the time.  Oh, I love that book.

Yomen said that silver is one of those metals that allomancers didn't really like, or something along those lines, as Vin was surrounded by silver when she was a captive. I think.

Well, of course.  That's because it's useless...or deadly.

I wouldn't think so. HOA said as much, in one of the chapters.

Mistborn Chapter Twenty-Three Annotation
Quote
One interesting aspect of the book that I haven't mentioned yet comes with the metal of tin. Originally, tin wasn't one of the Allomantic metals--I used silver instead. You see, I originally paired silver and pewter together, thinking that pewter had a significant amount of silver in it. Well, turns out that isn't the case. (Remember, each set of paired metals is a metal and an alloy made from it.)

My false impression on the belief that pewter is a silver/lead alloy goes back to my childhood. I remember when I used to paint lead fantasy figures that I bought at the local hobby store. One of the employees told me that they would be going up in price because the manufacturers wanted the figures to be safer. They were going to cast them out of pewter instead of lead, because pewter is much less toxic. I asked what the difference between pewter and lead was, and the employee told me that pewter is has lead PLUS silver, and that's why the figures cost more.

He meant tin, I guess. Either way, that's stayed with me for quite a long time. I soundly resisted changing silver to tin during the first drafts of the book, even when I found out the truth. The problem is, I really liked the name "Silvereye" for those who burn silver/tin. It sounds far slicker than "Tineye."

I eventually came around, however. Consistency in the magic system is more important than a single cool-sounding name. I blame Hobby Town in Lincoln Nebraska for my pains.

Unless Brandon made a big mistake (something I very much doubt), then I don't think so.

*cough http://www.brandonsanderson.com/graphics/mb_table_v13.jpg cough* It seems silver isn't on the chart.

Was pure silver a metal you could burn?  I thought it was just part of the alloys...

Brandon, are you guys going to put Seer under Atium and 'BIGSECRET' under Larasium?  (I think the poster looks awesome BTW)

Oh, it had definitely been mentioned.  I thought about it a while back after finishing the second book as well.  I, just like you, think there is something more behind the symbols, but I couldn't even start to reveal the secret.

The fact that they all look quite...similar...makes me think there's some sort of rhyme.

Balance may be the real reason, but the using-different-senses thing makes a good excuse. :)

I would guess something along these lines as well.

I always wondered about how crazy those two metals were...this makes a little more sense.

I haven't played a Prince of Persia game since the original. Still have nightmares of looking through the instruction manual just to find some clue to allow me to advance in the stage.  >:(

Hahaha.  Like Mr Discount said, UBI Montreal is doing a great job this go around.  I have only encountered a few difficult parts where I 'died' about seventy times in a row trying to do a long set of acrobatics.  The game is no longer spam till your finger falls off.  There is so much timing involved.  It's awesome!

Okay, so the gameplay and the story are amazingtastic (I think I stole a word from miyabi there), but the fetch questing is getting a little annoying. I am not sure if my insanity will fall deeper if I try to get all those dumb light seeds...all 1001 of them.

I have about half of them now, and my head already hurts.  :P

I am playing through it. Enjoying it very much. Feels very cinematic. A lot of people are complaining that the Prince this time makes a bad main character, but he isn't the main character of the story, Elika is. It reminds me very much of Kurosawa in a way. Taking this epic story with these fantastical characters, and we see it all through the eyes of one of the side characters who just gets yanked along.

Yeah, I actually really like that fact.  I haven't gotten very far yet, but I'm about to go and rock through a good chunk of it.

Has anyone gotten the new prince game?  I got it on Wednesday, and it's so much freaking fun.  I'd definitely recommend it for any platformer, action adventure, or Prince fan.

Thanks, Rose.

I'm totally in for a word war. I really want to finish my book by the end of December anyway (since I'll be starting another one in a different class in January.)

Yeah, writing 25k words in a day is pretty... epic. I'd actually thought that trying would be a miserable experience - I can't believe how much FUN I had. (Not that I don't like writing normally, but the thought of making half of the month's word count in a day was pretty intimidating.) That's probably the only reason I finished, actually...

I even slept for almost two hours and worked a 4 hour shift!

btw, Fell: It's not fair to say stuff like that! We're already waiting with bated breath for your FIRST book to come out, jeez.

Holy son of Batman...that's impressive, Raethe.  I think your next goal should be doing that two days in a row!!

Oh, and congrats!  :D

Oh, I can't wait for the release...I may actually have to take a solid ten hour drive to Provo for this one.  (I was going to do so for HoA, but my friends were too busy to go with...)

I think it's worth it... but then again, my drive was like ten minutes last time.  However, there were those who drove for eight hours straight and said it was worth it.  (If you don't believe me, ask miyabi)

miyabi, comments. :)  It would be ten hours one way (twenty total) all within about 30 hours.  Woo!
