making notes for a new project.
I'm looking for swords. From history and legend, but not recent fiction. IE, Shannara and Tolkien are out, but Excaliber is in.
Off the top of my head, I'm thinking Excaliber, Durandel (Charlemagne's) and Joan of Arc's swords. (I'm not sure what Joan's was named, but it also was used by St. Marten against the muslims in the 9th century) and she told a servant where to find it after she was told by the angelic voices. It was buried behind the alter at a small chapel, and after wiping it once, the priests had cleaned all rust from it.
Swords like THAT. Anyone got ideas? Famous swords.

I know that Roland (from the Song of Roland, and a contemporary of Charlemagne's) had a sword named Durendart. Perhaps this is the same sword as Charlemagne's that you mentioned.

There's also the flaming sword that God placed (along with the cherubim) to guard the way to the tree of life. It has no name as far as I can tell.
