Title: Hi...a/s/l?
Post by: JP Dogberry on July 08, 2004, 09:10:49 AM
Just now, for the third time in recent memory, I have had a random person message me and aks me this question, and then a bunch of others in the exact same words. (I'm wondering if it's the same person or if they're all equally stupid).

I've gotten to the stage of answering "Oh..you're one of *those* people." To this, they respond that they are 27, female, and from the United States of America. They then solicit me for imaginary sex, and when I say no, continue regardless.

Where do these idiots come from? Do they breed them on farms? Do they think I will be fooled by the fact they were claiming to look at my profile, which doesn't exist? Do they think I won't notice when they suggest to look at their profile that it also is non-existant? Most of all, why do they think that "No" means "Please carry on regardless, depsite the fact I am completely ignoring you?"

My latest try was to suggest I was deeply Christian and offended by what they were saying. (Half true, given I am semi-Christian and Offended by their stupidity). They continued to describe what they had done to me, which merely begot the ingeniusly dry answer: "No, No you didn't. I would have noticed if you did. "

Seriously though. Who keeps Vat Growing these idiots? More importantly, can we find out so I can feed them to my Cockroaches?

Thanks. I'd appreciate that. Or else, Ninja or no, they get whacked.

were you holding some type of actual conversation with them?  I use to get something like that on MSN but is was actualy a bot that would spam random porn messages.  A few of them actualy seamed like they were real people at first.

I thought it was a bot, to which it replied "Bot? is that supposed to be some kind of an insult?".  Then it also responded to my saying the word Script. I figure those reactions may have been scripted, although I'm not sure if an idiot would program it that far. If it was a bot, it was pretty basic compared to something like Alice, and pretty advanced for an idiot teenager.

Then again, if it was a person it was about the level of an idiot teenager.

Also, it uses yahoo addresses, As I said before, I've had three times with almost exactly the same script, but yahoo address registration requires you to enter a word from an image.

I'm suprised you've had a chance to converse with one... whenever I yell back at them it says "This member is not currently signed on."  How do these people get my Screen name?  Are they just randomly putting in conbinations until they find one?  Or is there a (snicker) system the morons created?

Either way, Iv've had the same person actually gve me three seperate IMs with "Hi a/s/l?"  While I was typing this...

First of all, when I saw the title, I looked immediately at the author and then thought, "Now we have to strangle Jam??"

Second of all, this is why stopped using ICQ so long ago and why I never sign onto AIM unless I"m looking for someone I know.

Oddly, I've never had this problem with AIM. I keep hearing about things like this, but so far I've never been randomly spammed. If I knew why I'd tell ya.

I've only had one random IM spammer and that was on MSN. No clue who it was. And I have no idea what a/s/l means, and I'm happy staying that way. It can't be good.

Stacer; it stands for age/sex/location?

It's the IM equivalent of what "So where are you from and what's your major" was at BYU.

Oh and Jam, the CORRECT response to a/s/l, is "No, sorry I don't speak American Sign Language."

They're usually too stupid to figure that one out.

Hum.  Seems to me like they would have to get your screen name somewhere, which means you probably posted it somewhere.  (Like on this forum.)

It would be easy with AIM, Yahoo, or MSN--since your screen name is the same as your email address.  If they find or buy a bulk of aol email addresses, they can have their bots start spamming the AIM.

I don't use those programs a lot, so I'm a bit illiterate in the field.  (I haven't even been able to find you folks on when I've tried.)  However, I've never been spammed.  I probably would if I did Yahoo too much, thought.  That's the email address I use for spam-suspect forms and things....

If you ignore the Bots, maybe they'll go away.

Why is it that teenagers in chat rooms seem to think this is a cool way to introduce themselves? You'd think most of them would have learned by now that text messaging speak isn't goint to cut it on a board or in a chat room.

actually, my previous post on this thread is two minutes older than your "introduce yourself" post. Probably you were writing it when I posted. I'm glad you did it without prompting though. Ms. Fish won't accomodate us and make our job easier.
