I read an article today about how a lot of critics dislike the movie "Weather Man" because it is a big-budget Hollywood movie, yet deals with themes and styles typically associated with indie movies. Apparently Hollywood is not allowed to make a serious movie unless it is an historical epic.

Over half of all Best Picture oscar winners are historical films.

There is some discempancy between what Hollywood likes and what audiences like.
