Ah, just keep posting. It brings up your post count.

That's what I do, but then again I always get razzed for it.  ;)

i don't really find charlize theron attractive anyway, but this movie doesn't look like something that interests me.  I might see it when it comes out on video, but a very big MIGHT.
everything was going fine, until i critically failed my intelligence check!

I don't really want to see this movie either.

I'm sure it is a good movie, but it seems like the kind that gets me really angry at the way people treat each other and then I get depressed. Also it is rated-R.

See, my point is that saying"I don't want to see a movie about sexual harassment and the degradation of women because I don't find the lead actress attractive" is a strong indicator that the attitudes portrayed in this movie are accurate.

It was best said the other day someone needs to give the girl an oscar so she can start looking pretty again.

I was referring to remarks like this one.

in my defense i was saying she wasn't attractive as my opinion because many people were saying she was pretty.  I also thought this movie was interesting the first time i saw it when it was called disclosure.

Your point about what you said is well seen - you're saying that you were remarking on two seperate things, not saying that you didn't want to see it because you don't think she's pretty. Good point. I retract my statement.

I do, however, disagree with the comparison to "Disclosure." Just becasue there are two move that deal with the same issue doesn't mean that they are the same movie.

1. It was a joke
but one meant to draw attention to the fact that she is obviously oscar reaching.

and

2.I never said I wasnt going to go see it.

Its like Kate Winslet remarks in HBO's the extras... you have to do a holocaust movie to get an oscar, or be a cripple. This is my oscar year.
The idea is that if an actor tackles a serious issue he deserves and oscar seems to be becoming quite accepted.

Good point, Jeffe.

I agree with you on the idea that there are far too many preconceived ideas about what constitutes an "Oscar" performance.

that is very true.  it seems that if the movie is somber and the character has to overcome some kind of great obstacle then they are oscar worthy.  So basically that is all movie makers are making now.  I feel that has been one of the causes to the large drop in movie ticket sales.  Hollywood is putting out cookie cutter movies now it seems.  basically all the quarky movies look "harry potter"ish.  series of unfortunate events, charlie and the chocolate factory (i know tim burton has always done that kind of style), cat in the hat, the new movie coming out about the kids and the nanny witch, etc.   though i don't mind the style, it is just getting played out too much in my opinion.

Uh, how is charlie and the chocolate factory a sombre film? You'd do well to re-format your last post, it's kinda bad.

And the number of trite action flicks compared to the number of serious sombre films is something like 10490:1.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

It's hard to find people who are willing to fund a movie that breaks too far from the mold. Some Indy films maybe, but not too many big-budget films.
