PA = Penny Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com) an online comic. They created a strip making fun of game manufacturer American Magee who had made a game called Alice where everything in Wonderland was decidedly violent and psychotic. The strip said that Magee's next endeaver was going to be a take on Strawberry Shortcake (as a dominatrix). It was in poor taste, but imo, well within free speech laws. THat didn't stop American Greetings from sending the boys at Penny Arcade a Cease and Desist order. Penny Arcade is one of the more successful web comics, but they hardly have the funds to go to court with American Greetings, even with help from the CBLDF (Comic Book Legal Defence Fund), which I'm not entirely sure they were able to secure, so they stopped.

So essentially, until American Greetings decides they're not going to censor the little guy, they don't receive my business (except that they do, because my stance free speech is decidedly weaker than my little girl's smile).

The comic was really really funny, too.

The funny thing is, thanks to the lawsuit, a bunch of people mirrored the file, and so even more people have seen it than would normally have.

Also, PA said to boycott the company on the Mother's Day shortly after it happened. American Greetings lost a fortune that day.

Oh, it wasn't enough to hurt the company in a real sense, but it was enough to hurt, put a big dent in it. Enough that they would have been upset.
