Brandon Sanderson / Re: Brandon's Book Tour
« on: November 13, 2008, 07:28:29 AM »
I'm actually surprised Brandon is going for 10 books, he has a hard enough time with a three book series since he's always wanting to write 10 books at once.

He does write fast but I wouldn't be surprised to see a coupple of years between books after the first three or four.

Movies and TV / Re: Worst Movie?

Yep.  In fact when I saw it people were walking out of the theater.  I know i'm in the minorty here at TWG, but Kong could have been a great movie but hit the pitfall of no one being able to say no to Peter Jackson.

The biggest problem is the movie's too long, no one kept the director's ego in check and told him that they should have gotten to the island faster and they where there too long.  The only part that didn't bore me was right when they got to the island and the whole end part with Kong in the city.

Pearl Harbor was the same, could have been a decent movie if they would have cut out the 30+ minutes up to the actual action--the love story was insipid and was drawn out for no reason.

Oh man I love Lenard Part 6.

In my mind a horrible movie is something that's so bad that you can't even watch it to make fun of it, which is why I think so many bad movies are horrible.

The most recent Bad movie I've seen, hard for me to say that anything is the "Worst", is Peter Jacksons King Kong.  Before that is was Pearl Harbor.

It doesn't have to just be a Christmas themed name, any December holiday will work.

This is something that's is still being discussed and I know that EUOL wont say anything about it until there's an official announcement about it.

eh, that page isn't even supposed to be linked on the front page.

If you're staff update your bio in your profile and one of these days I'll make a new page that takes from there instead.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Merchandise request/suggestion

I think you misinterpreted what I had posted.

Brandon is interested in merch, he's got several things in production right now, but he hasn't shown much interest in doing shirts lately nor has he been making things just to get a quick buck.  He may find the mousepad idea something he wants to do, but I don't think he would--but if there's enough interest he may make it anyway.

I kind of figure if EUOL wants those numbers out he'll give them, since he didn't post it in his blog I'm reluctant to say.

However he did say that MB3 sold out at the distributer level and is in a second print and it's fairly common knowledge that a typical print run of one of these books is between 6-12 thousand.

I liked the bar graph. It was less specific...it's nice to know if you're getting close, but the exact level-up post could still be a surprise.

Yes but it's more work then I want to do.

Here's a deal for you all, if someone makes a bar that I'll like I'll use it.

it should probably be around 110-120 pixels wide (that's about the length of an avatar and a trophy) and you'll need to make two, one for % earned and one for % not earned.  I'll leave height up to the person making it but remember it should fit nicely with what we have so maybe 20-30 pixels max.  It should fit with TWG's Victorian steampunk theme or Victorian newspaper theme.

I'll throw in a Unique award and some fell points for whoever makes it.

If you really have a lot of free time and wants a lot of Fellpoints then make one for each class in the system.

You know I can't see why we couldn't include Halloween, thanksgiving in the Holiday award.  I'll have to figure out how we want to keep track of the older names as we get closer to to December or we can just have a Halloween one in addition to the Christmas Hanuka Kwanzaa time.

I'm fine with either.

I don't think we'll make one, mostly because we can get better deals elsewhere so we can sell shirts for cheaper and make more off them (buy in bulk and no print on demand, it's what the webcomic guys do).  Also Brandon hasn't shown much interest in doing t-shirts lately--that's not to say he wont but he wants to get something that looks good and is cool and not just throw something up to make a quick buck.  We've got the cafeepress one on the site but that one was an experiment he made just to test thing out (I don't even think he wants it on the site anymore).

You're welcome to e-mail him about the site, because it is intresting, but I don't think he'll get back to you on this anytime soon because of the book tour.

However, I know he won't care if you make shirts as long as you're not making money off of them.
