I found it in references to "Coffin Joe" which apparently is Brazilian, so Portuguese?
"Magic is what makes fantasy fantastic," someone says, "you can't apply rules to them or else it loses wonder!" I respond, "Sure, but if you want to write them you will certainly want to know how they work." Writing is all about execution, and I find applying some basic laws of physics to magic systems make them more understandable and realistic. Here, I'm going to outline my basic method for developing a magic system.

I dunno what to make of her. She started out as such a minor character, but all of the sudden she's getting both back-story and character development.And... a deeply discounted asset? Sounds as if Ennesby is considering how to get her into the Toughs, at least...
I'm very interested to see where it's going though. And I'm pretty sure Ennesby isn't unduly distracted by her hair.
In my opinion, the toughs do need some fresh blood, though. One thing that Howard has been good about is having a moderately changeable cast with real decisions, while keeping the core (Tagon, Schlock, Kevyn) intact.
I'm starting to wonder if Kathryn is going to wind up hiring onto the Toughs. It's been foreshadowed. They'd have to overcome their mutual bad blood, but, well, the Toughs have overcome worse.Clearly Ennesby is wondering about Kathryn, too. Although the long, blonde hair makes it harder to pay attention
It'll probably be explained more in the upcoming story, given that the whole episode looks like being about futuristic medical issues. Howard has learned about "show, don't tell," and so uses the footnotes a lot less in recent story arcs.
Oh yes. Personally, it seems to me that tangling with Tagon's hazy past would be fun. But I'm sure plenty of other things could go wrong.
Man, I love this strip.
And, I just started Schlock from the beginning. Wonder how long it is going to take to catch up on 10 or so years of comics
Was there supposed to be a footnote or something beneath it? I'm seeing a broken image link under the strip...
