Books / Re: Star Trek: DS9 continuing storyline
« on: January 02, 2003, 02:34:20 PM »
I was an avid watcher of DS9, but I was afraid that the books would loose something, so I haven't read them.  Perhaps I will have to go pick one up.  Isimir, do you recommend any in particular, or should I just read them in order?

I truly enjoyed the Tron Special Edition DVD. The digital remastering and added scene were excellent.

Thanks for the update on the new release for All Flesh Must Be Eaten. I may have to look into getting that one.

As far as Pulp Zombie goes, I haven' t found anything new on its release. I will let you know if I do.

Though I enjoyed Warcraft 3, I would agree that the storyline was lacking in originality.  :-/

This scene is the biggest departure from the book. I have to agree that it never should have been included in its current form.  Secrecy is paramount from the beginning of the first movie when Gandalf tells Frodo on several occasions to "Keep it Secret. Keep it Safe."  Yes, I will grant that the ring could have taken possession of Frodo, but I don't recall this sort of confrontation (ie a direct stand off between the Ring-wraith and Frodo) in the books.  What added to the suspense in the book was all of the close calls.

Parody is a great alternative to horror.  The guy who is GMing this game makes reference to every Zombie movie that I have seen, and often pokes a little fun at them as well.  The humor in the game always makes it worth playing.

An excellent plot-line.  Keep us posted on how things are going.

Video Games / Star Trek Star Fleet Command Volume 3
« on: December 20, 2002, 05:00:02 PM »
I was wondering if anyone else has had the opportunity to play this game yet.  It is not much different than Volume 2, but uses the Next Generation technology which offers a little more excitement.

The ability to customize ship weapons, sheilds, and other accessories has added an excellent logistical challenge to the game, and the ability to select different officers to upgrade your ship through their experience has been a great added benefit to the game.

My major problem with the game is that the pointer for the mouse on the screen is hardly ever complete.  In essence there is only the bottom half of the arrow.  This causes a problem when trying to select certain devices, and greatly impairs selecting sheilds for reinforcement.

One other concern that I have heard is that the only way to play the Borg Campaign is if you bought the game from Best Buy. I haven't gotten the ability to explore this aspect of the game yet as I am still working my way through it, but I would be greatly disappointed if this was the case.

All in all the game is relatively entertaining.

Well, I have to admit that I have been avoiding seeing this movie because of all the scars I have received from several other recent Disney releases.  But, after reading your comments I think I will take my wife out and to see it this weekend.

Glad to hear that there is someone else out there who revels in the occasional dose of blood-shed and mayhem that typcially accompaines the joys of All Flesh Must be Eaten.  The zomies of that game some of the best of all the undead in any RPG I have played.  :D

I must admit that having seen the 12:01 AM showing on the 18th certainly altered my perceptions of the movie.  Everyone in the theatre was stoked and that offered an atmosphere from the audience that heightened the experience.

As far as the movie goes, it was a great Hollywood-ized version of the books.  To all the loyalists there are plenty of inaccuracies. To all those who never read the books it was a great movie.  In my opinion it should be taken for what it is, a particular group of writers' cinematic interpretation of a literary masterpiece.  Of course they have taken A LOT of license, but I feel that they have produced a high-quality movie.

The one aspect that truly stood out in my mind was the character of Gollem. I would simply reiterate the praise offered in previous posts.  Why repeat what has already been said?

All in all I would definitely recommend the movie.

One of the "Little Known Games" that our group has played recently is a game called All Flesh Must Be Eaten. It is pretty much a Zombie killing spree with the advent of some very interesting characters classes, archtypes and abilities set in a D10 based system that is similar to WotC's D20 system.  It has several supplements that offer some interesting adaptations to the standard classes, thus broadening the games potential.  If you enjoy watching movies such as Dead Alive, Night of the Living Dead, and/or Army of Darkness, then you'll probably enjoy this game.

So what do you think they will change, add, revise, or delete?  I am curious to see how all of these new reviesions will impact the "billions" of supplements that they have already put on the market.  Do you think that they will have to put out revisions for those as well?

Perhaps it is all a large deception!? Perhaps they purposefully released books with errors so that they could release a revised edition and milk us for more cash!? How dare they abuse us poor addicted gamers like that!  It is the ULTIMATE GRIFT!!!!

Why didn't I think of it first?  ;)

Actually, I am truly interested in seeing what revisions they are going to put out as easing game play is never a bad thing, especially with some of the players that are in my group (for EVOL & Spriggan read JERRY!!!!!!)
:D

The group I am in has been playing the D20 Dragonlords of Melnibone most recently, and we just finished up a Star Wars D20 campaign that I was GMing.  We have also done Palladium, but I think that is going to be on hold for a while.
