Webcomics & Free Stuff / My math is off
« on: May 01, 2003, 01:02:40 PM »
ok I can give you all a simple version of a maze game i'm makeing but my math is off I think.

i've got an area 700x500 pixels and  you can enter the number of rows and colums. so say you enter 25x20, I want the "cells" I created to scale down to match that size.  This way you could enter 100x100 and still have it fit in that size.

700/row=newsizey
500/colum=newsizex

to get the scale factor I multiply (100xnewsize)/oldsize and I do this for both the x and y.  So I should be able to take the oldsize*scale and get the new "space factor", just putting the new varable there dosen't work.  But this dosen't seam to be working.  It might be something else in the code but I haven't been able to find it yet so I'm checking my math.

humm
cell._x = (i-1)*cellWidth;
           cell._y = (j-1)*cellHeight;

this is the code I'm useing for the spaceing so I shouldn't matter if I just use the newsizex and newsizey so I don't need that oldsize*scale.  But my spaceing is still off.  It worked before I tried this modification.  I and J in that script is the current row/colum number.

Everything Else / Well should I buy it?
« on: April 23, 2003, 04:10:30 PM »
ok I've got $50 to blow this comming pay check and I've found a Flash MX book that is realy cool.  About 60% of the stuff I know, but the other 40% is realy cool.  I has mathmatical hittest functions so I don't have to use Flash's build in memory muncher, this was I can finish the block game that I posted a while ago but I lagged so much because if that.  As well as several other game engines.  But the coolest thing is it teaches how to set up a muli-play network game useing flash and some pearl.  So that would mean that it might be possible to do something on the forum game.  Sence that was the reason it never got made.
Of course there are plenty of other things calling out to me, such as .hack//sign or Final Fantasty origins.  There are also several DVD's I could buy.

Site News / It's funny
« on: April 21, 2003, 05:28:34 PM »
When Fell brought all of us (EUOL,Tage, Mustard,24 and myself) in on this about a year and a half ago we were going to be a place for webcomics and table top games.  Now we've morphed into a RPG site with some emphasis on table top games and our webcomic deparment have died compleatly (mainly because of EUOL's absence).  And our movies and video game section has allwayse been there but has never been a huge focus of this site.  But some dillagent people (namely Kid) have given us a nice Movie section.  This is just my 'things that make you say humm..' thought for this week.  give my your thoughts on this, now!

Video Games / Fallout 2 game editor
« on: April 17, 2003, 11:30:23 AM »
Black Isle has released an editor for Fallout 2.  It wasn't ment for public release so it's not as user friendly as say Bioware's.  But if you love the Fallout games now you can make your own.

Movies and TV / Spirited Away and Laputa
« on: April 15, 2003, 03:46:51 PM »
Well I'm sitting home on this crappy day watching Laputa for the first time in English ;D.  But I have to say one thing about these two movies, there's a realy condesending introduction on both of these by John Lasseter from Pixar before each movie.  You can't get around them unless you go through scene selection.  What's the deal here?  Talk about Ego. >:(  And Pazu's voice is gay it sounds way to cartooine and un-natural.

Movies and TV / Ruroni Kenshin: Samurai X Reflection
« on: April 15, 2003, 01:29:00 PM »
All I can say is wow  :o.  Any fan of the series must see this.  It's depressing but the animation is even better then Trust/Betrayal.  You get to see several scenes from the first two seasons in this realy well done style and the Sword Fights are the best i've seen in an anime, ever.  And the best part is you get to see the Fight between Eine and Kenshin which was the topic of the third comic book story arc but changed in the TV series.

Well this covers a wide area of topics so instead of posting this in multiple forums I'm putting it here.  The final nominations for the Origin awards are out and they have a public voteing section.  Not realy a surprise but Wizkids are leading the nominations in just about every catagory that they make things for.  Remember these are for things that were realeased last year only.
