Richard III
« on: June 15, 2004, 08:40:51 PM »
This movie is really cool. Released in 1995 it stars a Hitleresque Ian McKellen, a ravishing Annette Benning and a whole host of other greats (Maggie Smith, Robert Downy JR, Kristin Scott Thomas and Nigel Hawthorne)

The setting is a post Civil war England, and one that gets more and more militaristic and fascist as Richard takes more and more power. The chilling part is when his supporters wear their colors openly just before Richard is crowned.

Fantastic acting, and beautiful sets and costuming...
this is not a Brannaugh production and that makes it even better.

Yeah, I've seen that one and it's great. Brannagh's a re great too, I think, but that's another discussion. McKellan also does a Macbeth that's quite good, if you're into McKellan Shakespeare.

not particularly, but I love how evil he is in RIII
Especially after the bodies start to stack up...

I reckon that means you'd be into MacBeth too, since he pretty much is evil and kills a lot of people there.

If you like MacBeth (not to go down a side discussion) Night Shift has been doing a MacBeth spoof of late, involving characters from some of Prosser's other comics as well.  The storyline starts here
(FYI, Night Shift normally takes place in a Museum, so mummy and aztec gods and living picassos are in that context).

I dont know, I did like the tank bursting through the wall in the beginning....

The version of Macbeth I liked was Scotland PA... With Christopher Walken playing Macduff...
