Title: Let's bring back book burning!

A top Catholic cardinal has blasted The Da Vinci Code as a "gross and absurd" distortion of history and said Catholic bookstores should take the best-seller off their shelves because it is full of "cheap lies," the Reuters news service reported.

I guess they didn't get the memo this was a work of fiction?
You don't see anyone from the Illuminati speaking out about "Angels and Demons". Ok...you just don't see them anyway I guess.

well, from what I understand, it is pretty gross and absurd. But that wouldn't be a reason to burn it even if it claimed to be non-fiction. However, removing books from shelves is a far cry from book burning, and I think all the Catholic Church is doing is saying that Catholic bookstores selling it is like Deseret Book selling copies of the Godmakers or Orgazmo, and that they probably shouldn't, in terms of Church interests. I can't really blame them.

Right -- he's not telling everyone everywhere to take the book off their shelves, just the Catholic bookstores.  It doesn't seem out of line at all.  He's a religious leader complaining about a book that rips on his religion -- what do you expect him to do?

I must admit, however, that this publicity will most likely just increase sales.

hrm... maybe Doubleday paid the cardinal to make this announcement.... it would fit in with the book itself.

Indeed. For example, Billy Joel recommends getting your album banned by the Catholic Church to boost sales.

yeah, it's hard to feel hurt when the Catholic Church bans you, ever since they came out against John Denver.

Somewhere I have a point-by-point refutation of each absurd slander Brown makes against the  Church
It's pretty plain that Dan Brown is an anti-Catholic

Think about this,  would LDS sell Chick Tracts?
Would a Jewish Community Centre distribute Mein Kamph?
Would a Muslim School sell Anne COulter books?

So I think the Cardnial could have been more calm in his rhetoric, BUT he was correct in asking that Catholic Book Stores stop selling it.
Keep in mind that Catholic Bookstores are usualy family operations,  they dont have the time to proof read each work that sell.  I am sure that a number of store-keepers were unaware of the Brown BS

Now someone explain Denver,  or is this another case blown out of proportion by another anti-papist

oh, I never bother to get details with my slander...

I mean... er....

Seriously, all I heard that he was diaspproved, because he was fairly adament about something about God that contradicted the trinity doctrine. I don't know the details. I was just being insensitive and smarmy. Sorry.

Wait! There's something contradictory in the Bible? Call the cardinal!

I have honestly done an extensive google search and fond nothing negative from the Church toward John Denver

well, then I'm wrong. Teach me for using hearsay. I withdraw my comments from the record.

Well, his music was opposed by certain groups for promoting drug use, and he testified in some congressional thing when the government was trying force record companies to label their music.  Maybe you were thinking of that.

oh yeah. Cuz congress and the catholic church are so similar. Except that one is a bureaucracy dedicated to helping it's members. and the other is a bunch of rats that keep getting re-elected across the river here.

Don't talk about the Catholic church that way.

is "bureaucracy" a bad word then? I mean, MY church is a bureacuracy too. I don't think that's ALL it is, and I certainly don't expect any Catholic to think the Catholic church is nothing but a bureacuracy. But there is that central organization to it.

I didn't think cardinals got REelected. I thought only snakes and rats did that.

wait... you were using HUMOR weren't you! What tipped me off is that the Catholic church isn't just across the river from Arlington. At least, not the main body of it.

Sorry guys, I'm feeling really stoned, maybe it's NOT taking my drugs that's doing it to me.
