Title: Epic 40K:  Conversion to Hexes and Counters
Post by: Mr_Pleasington on May 08, 2005, 08:22:53 PM
So I've been browsing through the Living Rulebooks at the Specialist Games site. Between playing Dawn of War, looking at current GW prices, and reading the Epic rules...I want to play Epic.

But I don't want to pay anything.

So I look at my resources. Namely, a good imagination and a lot of Heroscape terrain. Browsing the Epic rules, it looks like a conversion to hexes and counters wouldn't be all to difficult. The main change, besides ranges, that I think would need to be fiddled with is unit sizes. Bump the 5-man standard squad up to 10 men. The rules impact would be low and I think it makes the scale work a bit better.

Any thoughts on this? Has anyone actually attempted this before I begin?

I've not looked at the latest version of epic (although it's bound to be cool) so I can't help yah much...

But why bump the squad sizes up?

Incidentailly, there are epic mods for DoW in production, as well as a Battletech mod.

yeah, I changed my mind about squad size after reading the rules more thoroughly.  5 figs on a stand represent a squad but don't necessarily mean that the squad is that small.

The conversion isn't going to be terribly hard.  There's some issues with assault that shouldn't be too hard to work out.  Certainly an interesting game.
