Eureka the Mad Scientist RPG needs your help. Mr. Ehlers and I are writing this tiny beast and need you to help flesh out the rules and generally try to break the game.

If your interested ask us to tell you more.

We COULD however send Fell a copy, and any of you interested in playing a session or two could get in on it. Then, of course, once we have a final form, we'd like a TWG review.

We only review stuff when the writers pay us large sums in unmarked bills. They can be imaginary bills, though, or duck bills, or whatever.

You guys might want to talk to fell about the cost of these things.  The reason I bring this up is last year a BYU student was getting his RPG published (well self published) and it cost him a lot of money.  Fell knows more of the details then me but i think he had to sell the core rule book at like $60 just to break even.

We're actually being much less ambitious than that. We're looking at something the size of the old TWERPS books or Ninja Burger. Beer and Pretzels size stuff.

Have you considered publishing via PDF?  It's a valid market and people are apt to spend a few bucks on a pdf if its worth it.  Might be a way to make enough profit to fund a print edition.

Hey, it worked for Cartoon Action Hour.  Just advertise at message boards around the net...especially rpg.net.  Send out some review copies to get the word out and badda-bing!  Instant rpg fame!

Easier said than done, right?

Its been discussed, but I dont really trust people as much as I used to. Its really easy to steal a PDF and I can see Eureka as the next big gaming hit people can download off of Kazaa. I want a group of people to buy the game, not file share it between friends.

5 bucks a copy sounds reasonable.  Maybe if we ever do a second edition we'll realease #1 as a PDF.

what about both?  A $5 PDF file and a book.  The person can get the PDF which contains the basics then the book will have more stuff in it.  If a person had bought the PDF they get $5 off the book.

I like the idea of a $5 PDF for a "lite" version of the game, but I don't think it will work for Eureka! because, again, it's sort of a Beer and Pretzels sort of system. The book is only about a dozen 8"x5" pages. It's hard to simplify something like that. Maybe once we have the larger system that we're working on we'll do something like that.

To be honest the way its designed now its a Lite game. I plan on eventually doing a full version in 81/2 x 11 format.
