Title: another mix
Post by: The Holy Saint, Grand High Poobah, Master of Monkeys, Ehlers on March 22, 2005, 10:17:13 AM
I'm planning another mix.

This time I want it themed on Months.

I need Jan-Mar, Jul-Oct, and Dec.
The Jul-Oct isn't as important.

Here's what I have:
April-september: Simon and Garfunkel "April Come She Will"
April: The Bouquet "April"
May: Shriner Bar-B-Q "May"
June: The B-52's "June Bug"
November: Guns'n'Roses "November Rain"

I'm not sure about June. mostly because it showed up on my last mix. Also, I'm considering Don McLean "American Pie" for February, but it's only tangentially relevant ("February made me shiver with every paper I delivered").

So, additional ideas? I don't mind repeating a song, but those 6 are the only ones that come to mind immediately. Name of the month in the title is preferable, but not necessary.

OH, just thought, I know several songs that have "july" in the lyrics, not the least of which is "Fortunate Son" by CCR.

U2 has a song called "October", I think.

I know Evanescense has one.  Take your pick

Oh, and I have a non-live verson of Linkin Park's "My December"

Man, how could I forget U2? That's my favorite album of theirs.
I haven't heard either the Evanescence or Linkin' Park songs though.

And speaking of U2, they have a song called July 4th, so i'm definitely hooked up in the July area.

Still need Jan, Feb, March, August, and September. Maybe a December if I don't like this LP song.

I'd recommend "Flaming June" by BT if you're into Trance for June.

For March, you could go with a "March" song (Like Enya's "March of the Celts"), unless you really need a song that refers to the month.

well, I'm not into trance, or Enya. I'd rather not use March in terms of a procession, I'm pushing it with June Bug, I think, but they make a lot of references to summer in the song too, so they're obviously playing with that meaning.

If you don't, something's wrong, it's an excellent song.

September In The Rain, from The Beatles.

I like Linkin Park, but I don't like everything they do. Plus I may just have different tastes. Didn't get a chance to listen to it yesterday. will try tonight.

I realize that some of these may be months you already have, but I just searched my Itunes song list by month.

"April in Paris" by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong
"A Rose in April" by Kate Rusby (also mentions June--lyrics say "I was a rose in April, and still a rose in June, I fear that come the winter, I will no longer bloom")
"April Fool" by the Shaved Belly Band -- this is my friend's band, so it may not be available except through him, because he's the one who emailed it to me
"Carthage: June 27, 1844  A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief" by the BYU University Singers, album We Sing of Christ

That's much, but that's all I've got.

April gets used a lot, doesn't it.
I wouldn't feel right putting "Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief" and "November Rain" on the same disc.

I scoured CDDB. This is what I found. ANy comments on any of them? I haven't heard most of them, but I trust the bands.

"January Friend," The Goo Goo Dolls
"January" Goldfinger

"New Year's Day" U2 (yeah, I should have thought of this, but we're getting U2 heavy on my suggestion list)

My brother-in-law recorded a song about building a snowfort in January, maybe I'll try to get his permission.

"Xmas in February" Lou Reed

"February Stars" The Foo Fighters
"One February Friday" Frankie Goes to Hollywood
"February Moment" Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea
"February" Jesus Jones
"Ground Hog's Day" Primus

"The Ides of March" Iron Maiden
"Waters Of March" David Byrne and Marisa Monte (or Cassandra WIlson)

There's a lot of stuff about Marching, but not much about the month of March

"April Fool" Soul Asylum (Ok, should have remembered this one)
"April Skies" The Jesus and Mary Chain
"April Fool" Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane

Lot of songs for "may" as in "may I" but again, few months.
"Cinco de Mayo" Liz Phair
"May Queen" Liz Phair (she's a little weird)
"First of May" James Taylor

"Evening in June" Van Morrison
"Rainy Day in June" The Kinks (another one I should never have forgotten)
"53 Days In June" Phil Keaggy, Wes King, Scott Dente

"1000 Julys" Third Eye Blind

Definitely go with the James Taylor ones. Funny, I have James Taylor in here and none of those came up. I thought I had October Road, but maybe not.
