Brandon Sanderson / Re: Elantris Paperback

Thank you for clarifying for me, Ookla. That really made me stop and think, Stacer. What? Elantris isn't even out yet? I'm such an idiot. How could I have been so confused? What in the heck is everybody talking about then?  And then I started wondering what that Border's guy was talking about. He said that they had a run on the store because it was required reading for a class or something. I told him that sounded like a good strategy.  ;) Was he playing with me? If so, that would be a funny joke, but a little unprofessional, hee hee.

Whoo! (wipe forehead) I love my life!

Thanks! I just went to Borders yesterday. It was the first time in a long time that I've actually went with a book in mind. AND IT WAS SOLD OUT! So much for immediate satisfaction!

What's it called, so I can look it up? I published with Covenant too! They're awesome to give us newbies a chance.

That's helpful. I'll check it out.

Oh, so much drama, drama, drama today. You ever have one of those days? Speaking of, I think I saw a thread on procrastinating, I think I'm going to check that one out. They might have some good advice for me. :P

Chimera, I wish I had taken that class when I had the chance. When I was taking some creative writing classes at BYU, we got this email where we could've have made our stories into screenplays, kind of like a team effort with the film students, but I was too wrapped up in writing a novel at the time and I didn't want any distractions. I wish I had done it. I'd go for it. I had to get this 'for dummies book,' but it was a laborious process. If I was planning on writing more than one screenplay, I'd get this screenwriting program that they have.

So Parker, if you ever read this? Well, first what's LTU? I've actually written a screenplay of that novel I got published and gave it to a production company to look at, BUT how long is the waiting period? I don't want to  be pushy really, but when would it be appropriate to call and query about it? They've only had it for two months, but it's just a little bit different than manuscripts (because that's a pretty short waiting time for those), though I'm sure you know this already. Anyhoo, what's the most professional way to do this?

Side note: Chimera, I saw that Asian Backstreet boys thing the other month. We about died laughing. It seemed like something we would do.

I'm impressed! I think it's cool when people go for their dreams...and I totally know what you mean by the low grade writer's block, Nessa (I'm totally going to get stern with myself).

These books had better be out in print in a few years! Why not? It's cool that you can actually write from experience, Frosker (I still can't get over that computer man). And those others sound really fun to research (I say I hate the research, but sometimes...well, it would be so cool to learn more about Scottish stuff, Stacer. I totally envy you--especially some of the cool stuff they did. I had some really tough Scottish ancestors and the things they did make me proud...in a disgusted kind of way).

My sister's husband comes from a clan that 'practically' wiped out our clan (those darn Campbells, they tried to kill off the McDonalds too). Anyway, when I found that out, I forbade them to marry. It was totally Romeo and Juliet. Oh, except they lived and got married. But seriously, it's amazing what a few years does to calm things down. I'm sure our ancestors would have been appalled he married into the family. We're the Black Irish and we followed the Black priest...total tangent.

So, is there a post where we can read first chapters and stuff like that? Is that the writer's group thread on that other post (I love how clear I am)There probably is...and I just haven't looked deep enough.

Oh, you threw in Traci Hickman! A weak spot. I totally believe you that it would be a good investment, but I'll probably have to take these investments one step at a time. I DID sign up for the World FantasyCon. It was completely unlike me...spending money, that is. But who knows? I'll do some more investigating.

Yeah, that's what I'm confused about too. $400? That's pretty steep for me, but I just looked it up and it's $135 if you're not a student and you're an early bird. I just looked up that BYU one too, Parker. That one IS $400? It looks nice...if you have the funds. You'd probably get some pretty good connections there too. Maybe another year (if I ever strike it rich).

Oh, and thanks for the acronym lessons, Chimera

Who would you suggest sending short stories to? I'd love to get into that!

Okay, so I've been looking through the sites to find this information...since I definitely don't want to repeat anything (and after some good laughs and some 'ah hahs'--and man, I've been putting some people through some major dejavu), I still can't find what everyone's 'current' projects are.

So, can I hear what you're all up to? Stacer, are you writing a book? I think I got that from what I read? So, let me hear it!

Oh, hey! That makes sense...sending in different manuscripts!

Brilliant, Vivian! (Uh, that is such a random obscure movie quote, I don't expect anyone to recognize that one)

Wow, March is just the time for writer's conferences!

Oh, Stacer and Chimera (all of yas), so you write children's books too? So, do I. Well, I'm trying to anyway. I call them 'Twisted Tales' and they're fairy tales twisted (that was a little bit self-explanatory). I came up with them in an elementary school cafetera, trying to get a kid to eat (he lived on a feeding tube, so of course he was NEVER hungry). But everytime he took a bite, I'd plunge into some crazy story, and if he stopped, I'd stop. The kids were desperate to get him to eat just so they could hear the rest of the stories. They even got in trouble for staying in for lunch recess.

My friend was even going to help me illustrate my books, but he got way too busy (he's an illustrator for some TigerWoods video games).

So, are you going to the UVSC one, Chimera? I have to check the dates on all of these things, so I can decide which ones I'll be able to go to. My teacher (what?--my teacher?--that's what sitting on the rug and listening to stories all day does to me), anyway, my supervisers are going to wonder why I'm suddenly running off to these March things?

Hey, do you think they'll count going to kindergarten as still being a student? I would love to turn stuff into HarperCollins as requested material.

Steph...ur, guitarbabe

Then it's Stacer to me ;D

Okay, I'd better leave this poor thread alone before I get kicked off of it! Good talking to you. Let's do it again!--now that I know what a pm is. Whooh!
