*Spriggan laughs at Entropy's exploded head
-
Har, take that you rapscallions!
-
I'm not sure if this news pleases or bothers me.
-
Entropy's favorite author is speaking tomorrow in SLC

We should fly out Entropy just for this.

I love the picture he has of himself. You can tell Paolini's very down to earth, and that none of this has gone to his head at all. Not one bit. No sir. Not at all.
-
Yup, that kid is going to have one messed-up life. Hopefully messed-up enough to make a great psuedo-documentary TV show in the same vein of "Behind the Music." I can see it now "Behind the Pages: The Christopher Paolini Story."
Course, then he would know that he's really made it to the big-time.

Just like Milli Vanilli.

Reminds me a bit of Steve Martin in the interview in The Jerk. "Who is Navin Johnson?" Well, I guess this is only funny if you're familiar with the flick, but if you're not, just laugh really hard and say how witty and funny I am.

Article=truth. At my locale Media Play the following is true about Eldest:
1. There are far more copies of Eldest than Harry Potter.
2. There are far more copies than that of Knife of Dreams.
3. Eldest shows a rather steady rate of need to be restocked.
4. I bought my copy there. :)

On the topic of Eragon, I know a site with a really good review of it

it should have one on Eldest in a few weeks

I had to copy/paste that essay into word. Horrible, horrible colours and background.
And she's right. :)

A quote from the article:
Word choice seemed as though it was the author's attempt to use all his SAT words; it was verbose and flowery as if on purpose, trying to impress with vocabulary that would have been better used sparingly.
This made me laugh because that is exactly what my writing suffered from in high school. I thought the thesarus was my best friend, but I think it was actually my worst enemy. ;D
I still have to struggle to keep myself in check. Adverbs are one of my weaknesses. When I'm editing, I often go through and highlight all the adverbs and cut most if not all of them, often by asking myself if I can't "show" instead of "tell," like with a good strong verb or more clarifying dialogue instead.
Anyways, I liked this article because it reminded me of all the things I did as a juvenile writer--which I'm still trying to mature out of. ;)

Very good article. interesting how I never thought about the whole dragon in the windstorm thing before. mabye I should pay more attention from now on huh?
NAWW! :)

You weren't the only high schooler to suffer from this affliction. I often grade papers for my mother-in-law who teaches high school English classes, and it's hilarious. It's pretty obvious that they use a thesarus because their fancy vocab words are often mis-used. I wish I had some with me so I could give examples. Next batch I get I'll post some.

I never liked Thesauruses because of how so many of the synonyms they list are only synonyms in really specific circumstances. Once, a few years ago, when someone was talking about how great they are I tried to prove the badness of Thesauri by going from synonym to synonym and evetually getting from "false" to "true". I gave up because it was getting boring, but I had gotten from false to some kind of animal (I think it was something like goat, I just remember saying I'd proved my point by getting from an abstract noun to a farm animal)
