I am now officially a West Coast TWGer. I think I'll watch Sleepless in Seattle tonight to celebrate. Though I think I'll be anything but sleepless--it's been a loooong day. I left my house this morning in Boston at 4am, which was 1am Pacific time. It is now 9:30 Eastern time and 6:30 Pacific. I'm too tired to calculate the number, though.
But! I also am now the official owner of a 85 Jeep Cherokee. It's pretty cool. I bought it off my brother. And I think I might have already found an apartment, though I think I should take the next week to see what else is out there. But of the three I saw today, it stands far and above. And it even has south facing windows, which, I am told, are a must.

It's in Renton, a suburb (about 10 miles out, I think)--which is about 10 minutes from my work. Not sure whether I'm going to take it. There are a couple girls with openings, too. I'm torn. If I were to live in Seattle proper within the boundaries of one of the four University wards, I'd likely not get kicked out in August (I turn 31). If I live near work, I'll get kicked out to a family ward. But the wards in Seattle are on the younger side because of the U of W. I could find some roommates on the east side, or get my own place. I could go to a singles' ward for the next three months and then switch, or I could just start going to a family ward, and then the only thing that would matter would be the price of the apartment and whether I want roommates. I'm not sure what I want to do. I'll probably stick with the east side, though, because rents are cheaper and it's more woodsy.
So what that means for anyone who'll want to stay with me at Labor Day is that I'll probably be about a 10-20 minute drive to Seattle itself--which is actually a quicker commute than WorldCon last year (depending on traffic), because from my place to Hynes is a good 20 minutes. If you don't mind the commute (and I do have a car now, so it's not a problem to drive), you're going to be welcome to stay no matter where I am.

having had several very long commutes, I'd take the close to work one. That's more of your life that belongs to YOU to do what you want.

Update: Found an apartment. It's a one bedroom, all to myself. It's going to be a new experience, living alone. I've actually never had my own place before, and I'm excited about having my own home. I plan on getting a cat to keep me company, and I've realized that most of the friends of friends that I have in the area will actually be in my ward, so that's good. I'm going to dinner and an activity with them tomorrow night, so the fun begins.
It's in Magnolia, which is a Seattle neighborhood. It's actually the next neighborhood west of the one that the Space Needle and the convention center are in, so it'll be convenient to downtown for the con over Labor Day. It's a nice, quiet neighborhood, with a nice view of the Sound (though my particular windows don't really get much view beyond the building next door, but if I ride my bike a few blocks, there's the Sound right there). It's a secure building, with secure parking, even. And an elevator. The movers will love me moving in (as opposed to the ones in Boston who hated me--4th floor walkup plus the flight to the basement on the back stairs).
So, I move in Saturday, and then I will officially be a Seattle-ite. Do any of you need an update on my address? Let me know, if so. Phone (cell) and email stay the same. At least, I don't think Verizon's going to make me change, but I actually don't know. I have to call them, now that I have a local address.
