It's an excellent movie.  I love the father's stories!
It's one of the few movies that I watch and think "I want to own it as soon as possible."

the subject matter also tied neatly in with what I wrote my master's thesis on, so that was nice.

It was cool. She read me some of the stories that were in her master's thesis and they were great. :)

It was ok.  The ending was too much like a forced-sentimental Hallmark card.  The book was much sharper in my opinion.  I liked the movie, but I can't say is was a particularly good bit of cinema.

My favorite part was the surrelism, I love that in movies... that's why I liked those old dick tracy movies,

I wrote about how identity (both personal and family) is created through narratives.  We tell who we are and we are who we tell.  I interviewed my grandfather and great-uncle and transcribed their stories, then I discussed them and analyzed how their stories show who they are and how hearing family stories allows people to understand who they are and where they came from.

I also talked about the fact that stories don't have to be factual in order to hold emotional truths--just like Big Fish.

thats awesome, and it's a very good point, but I was thinking that there's the truth, and then theres versions of the truth and it's all a matter of how you see the world.

You mean Brenna.  :D I haven't yet spoken up on it (mainly because I haven't seen it and haven't really felt a desire to yet).

Err... you did see the movie yes? At the end certain things were shown as what they were and you were shown what was true and what wasn't true in the father's stories (trying to not give any spoilers).
