Title: CONduit and magic systems
Post by: imflyer20 on April 13, 2008, 05:46:06 PM
I have another small question to ask of you Brandon, or anyone else if this question is applicable. Are you planning to attend CONduit in Salt Lake City this May?

-btw, I finally started Mistborn 1. Though I must regrettably pause to work on finals, I am very intrigued thus far. "He killed them all"...sweet! Can't wait to get my homework done so I can finish it.

And one other thing. What aspects should a writer keep in mind when developing a complex magic system?

I don't have the link handy, but I'm pretty sure there was a blog entry or EUOLogy on magic systems, try looking it up.

Also, keep an eye on our podcast (www.writingexcuses.com) for an upcoming episode on exactly this topic.

B...r...i...brilliant. If only I browsed some more, I would have saved an unnecessary thread, but thank you for sharing that link with me.

I just wanted to know the basic rule of thumb for magic systems as I sparked a new idea that would fit in the fantasy genre (right before finals too...blah). Hard magic is what I need for this one. I'm just nervous. I've never attempted such a feat, but I can see this new concept starting at three books easy. Though I'm taking notes on the side, I won't start this project until I've read the books I said I was going to read. Promise. Scout's honor. (yes it's true, and I'm not ashamed :)

Hey, I just realized that I'll be in Utah visiting my fam when CONduit is in town. Yay! Maybe I'll sign up for membership. Only trouble is transportation since I'm leaving my car here in Mass. Carpool, anyone?

Just take the bus or the traks train.  UTA goes just about everywhere in the Ogden to SLC to Provo area.

Yeah, I suppose I could, but after living in Boston for 3 years, I am so sick of public transportation. Anyhow, I'm sure I can get my dad to drop me off on his commute from Orem to SLC. Or maybe I can round up my Utah writing group gals to drive us all up there. That would be sweet.

Sweet, that information was not there the last time I saw the CONduit page. Very cool. Though I haven't a clue what I'm getting myself into, I'm excited about the experience...just counting down the days. So hey, whoever's all going and would like to, maybe we can arrange a meeting or dinner or something? Just a thought.

I registered to go to Conduit. I've never been to a con before, and part of me is freaking out.

Hey, so how did CONduit turn out? Since I was in town, I thought I'd go up to SLC for one of the days. But then my time just filled up with family and friend stuff and I just didn't make it up there. :(

Hope you all had a good time. How did your discussion panels go, EUOL?

It was a great experience. Thanks EUOL for letting me pick you with questions for so long. I'm enjoying Elandris so far. The funny thing is, there was a panel for Utah Writers, and EUOL was not among them. Now that just didn't seem right. I think his success was to blame. Not sure :)

I really enjoyed my first con.  I'm certain I will go back next year.  Thanks especially to Fell and EUOL, who let me trail after them like a little lost puppy.
