Title: **Spoilers** Serenity
Post by: fuzzyoctopus on October 01, 2005, 01:57:59 AM
Wah!

How are Zoe and I going to live without Wash?

Wash was one of my favorite characters... but at least it wasnt a cute girl on the show who died... mmm Kaylee....

actually Wash dying gives Zoe a little more freedom to develop into a less one dimensional character, and it opens things up to a bizarre love triangle between Mal, Zoe and Inara. Simon and Kaylee will take the monogamous couple spot.

I was less satisfied with Books death, because he has so many unanswered questions. (Yes as Patrick said things are hinted at, but dang theres a lot they could have done.

Regarding the unanswered questions about Book, I thought the exchange between Mal and Book was very interesting (not quoting it exactly, but...):

Book: I wasn't always a shepherd.
Mal: You have to tell me about that sometime.
Book: No, I don't.

Sounds to me like Joss Whedon's saying he doesn't have to tell us about Book's life before.

What about the origin of the Reavers ... scary neh?

I guessed that one a while ago.... although Miranda was really freaky...

Wash dying had me bummed. He was one of my favorite characters. But I think it was good move because it made the following scenes just that much more intense. In fact, there was a point when I seriously expected Simon, Kaylee, Zoe, and Mal to all die.

I was satisfied with Book's death. He's an interesting character, but he never really peaked my interest.

I really like how Whedon can get his audience feeling multiple emotions at once. His scenes can be funny, scary, and tragic all at once.

The theater I was in was completely full and unfortunately I was near a large group of teenage girls. But it was awesome to hear once part of the theater gasp, while another part laughed, and another section cried. That was definitely one of the more intense theater going experiences I've had recently.

And I now have so much hope for Wonder Woman, especially after River's scene with the Reavers.

Which made me think that Joss had seen some old Roger Corman and Howard Cohen (not that his effects weren't Corman's) Sci-fi Flicks like Battle Beyond the Stars (1980)_or Space Raiders(1983) where everyone but the young kid died trying to stop the bad guy.
Or for that matter the Magnificent 7 or 7 Samurai....

Ditto. I sat there and thought, "Dammit, are they going to give us a Chinese ending to go with the rest of the Chinese stuff?"

As for Wash, I'm more bummed than everything because it won't be the SAME without his wisecracks.  Wash was teh funny!   There is not enough funny without him around.

which is funny because the cast says Fillians funnier...

He could have obi-wan walk ons...

I loved his leaf in the wind triumph though... like he did something so amazing that he could never match it again...

And so is Jayne, and so is River, but it's a totally different  kind of funny.  That was what was so great about how the cast worked together - everyone had a slightly different sense of humor

I was hoping for flashbacks, at the very very best. OH well.

Going back to the movie, the whole reavers origin thing just... wow.  This movie did such a good job of scaring me.  In-freaking-credible.

"Tell me about the part where Janye got beat up by a 90 pound girl.... cause I dont think that will ever get old"

The operative was creepy too... got to say his opening scene with the Fed doctor was classic...

You put a top member of parliment in the same room as a psychic?

That got a nice chuckle...

I'm hoping that Wash somehow gets worked back in. Yet I doubt that.

I heard a rumor in the theater that Serenity is part of a pitch to get Firefly back on the air with new episodes. I don't put a lot of faith in that. If it does well, I can see it becoming a movie franchise before going back to the small screen.

Well he wants to do movies, he's said it a few times... if this one does well he's gonna be able to do it.

But a TV series would be good, on NBC or Sci-fi (Universal is so powerful! bow down before our corperate overlords)

Yeah. Wow. Losing Wash was so unexpected, and Zoe's reaction . . . wow.

I was rather amused by the fourth monument they put up: one for Shepherd Book, one for Mr. Universe, one for Wash, and . . . one for Serenity. They even had a paper rocket on top.
Then they rebuilt Serenity. I found it a little incredible that the Alliance would leave them alone long enough to be able to do that, regardless of what the Operative told them. The Alliance isn't known for its generousity and they'd just lost many ships in a battle with Reavers. They would rightly blame Mal, and considering that Mal is wanted for so many other "crimes" I doubt the Alliance would have just left him alone.

Yes, I know I don't post or work here anymore, but it has to be said.

Joss Wheden is my Master now.
