Usually, I'm not all that keen on remakes.  This trailer, however, gave me a delightfully weird feeling.

Depp+Burton+Wonka.  Hum....

Not having quicktime here, I can't view it till I'm home. Does anyone know if it is still to be a musical?

I saw the trailer for that before watching A Series of Unfortunate Events. Looks better than I imagined it being. Looks slightly creepy, too.

I don't know about the musical thing, since my computer has no sound, but I watched this a couple of times last week and thought it looked cool. They've made Depplook almost androgynous, and it's weird.

Depp is creepy in that trailer.
It's not a musical from what I can tell, but there really isn't anything to indicate one way or another.

You're missing a lot by not watching the trailer with sound.  It's...interesting.

Yeah, I keep telling myself to watch it at home, but I forget. I'll try again at lunch.

They're definitely going for a retro-60s look.  I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Upon veiwing it a second time, I think Depp is just wrong for this movie.

Why? Do you miss his 21 Jumpstreet days?
If I had any clue, would I be here?

It's because he's no Gene Wilder.

Based solely on the trailer (which I have now seen with sound) I have to agree--he doesn't bring the depth or roundness that Wilder had. Willy Wonka is supposed to be weird, I know, but Depp comes across as a flat caricature.

I just tell myself that this is a trailer, and the actual movie might be completely different. I like Depp, and he's usually excellent, so there might be more to it than comes across in the trailer.

its hard to tell with the insipid music and the insistance on showing the slapstick stuff. I suspect that this is one movie that Burton doesnt do particularly well.

Sorry, but I disagree.  I see the trailer, and I think "this is the twisted, insane version of Willy Wonka."  Actually, kind of more like I remember the books being.

The old movie was excellent.  I think it would have been a mistake to try and remake it as it was.  So, instead, we have Burton doing what he does best--strange visuals, off-center characters.  Wonka in the other was rounded, wise, and fatherly.  That's fine, but I'm interested in seeing a man-child of a Wonka--the kind of man who would build this strange paradise of chocolate and insanity.
