Title: William Shatner
Post by: cheesegrater on January 18, 2005, 02:08:10 PM
I've been watching Star Trek and I realized this guy is really hot! It was the episode where he was cloned as an andrioid. He was really hot in that episode, he must have worked out.

Then I saw current pictures of him and he looks terrible! What has happened to Captain Kirk?

I don't know about his looks, but his acting sure has improved.

That, and I have to change my pants every time he's on Conan due to the pee stains from laughing so hard.

Tage and I were talking about his latest CD.  Apparently, a lot of people like it--and it's getting a lot of critical acclaim.

Weird.  Apparently, Shatner isn't a joke--like Wheaton, he weathered the storm, and became cool again.

I always thought he was cool... I... don't know... why.. people... say he isn't.  Come on, he is the reason Star Trek was cool.

I agree with Eagle.  Also he's got a great sence of humor which is see all the time.  I think that's one of the reason's for his "come back", he's an enjoyable person who managed to get onto talk shows dispite not haveing much, or nothing at all, to plug.

Dude!  Wheaton is getting cool again too!  He is a big champion in Digital rights and Sane Copyright advocacy and has a couple books out now!

Also, if it wasnt for Wil I wouldnt have known about Geocaching

He is also a real nice guy (We have exchanged PMs and he gave me some pointers on fundraising when my wife was doing the Avon Breast cancer walk)

Now, I'm not going to argue about how cool he is NOW,

but I'm not sure what you mean by cool "again."

When was the first time he was cool?

Apparently, though this is hard for me to believe, a lot of the young female Star Trek fans (such as the friends I had in high school) liked him. I don't know if that counts as "cool," I always considered it "frustrating," but there you go.

/me admits guiltily:

I had a thing for Wil Wheaton in something like the 8th grade or freshman year of high school. I thought he was cute. But not to the exclusion of the guys around me.

Wil has a column in Dungeon magazine and was relating some old convention stories.  He brought up how it was really frustrating to be at these cons as a teenage and see people walking around with shirts reading: "Throw Wesley through the airlock" and "Beam Wesley into a sun."

Just and aside.

I imagine it was frustrating. I just didn't think he was "cool" before. *shrug*

I agree that Wheaton wasn't cool even before.  Also, didn't Shatner kill his first wife?  Someone I used to work with said that Shatner was involved in the death of his wife when she "mysteriously drowned".  I don't know if he was spreading anti-Shatner propaganda or what.

I find it unaccountably reassuring to hear that there is anti-shatner propaganda. It reinforces my core belief in the ability of nerds to generate personal crusades out of any old crap.

Yeah, I heard somewhere that someone did something to someone else. Some guy told me he heard it from his sister, who got it from a room mate, who learned it from a complete stranger at a party who claimed he was told by a former tech on the original Star Trek series who heard it from Shatner himself. Yeah. Plus, it was on the Internet, so it must be true.

William Shatner found his wife drowned in their pool.
He called 911, Pulled the body out of the water and attempted to revive her with CPR.
She was a recovering alcoholic and an autopsy found alcohol in her system after her death.

It's really a tragic story and kind of sad that people choose to use it for some petty sci-fi rivalry.

A friend of mine in high school worked as a set designer on the last season of TNG. There was a girl in our group who had a thing for Wil Wheaton and created an elaborate birthday card to give him for his 21st birthday and had the set designer give it to him. I refused to sign it because I heard that he was a loser that tried to pick up girls (unsuccessfully) at Videopolis on Fridays.

Go fig.

I did too, though I was still in elementary school. I didn't really miss him when he left the show though because I had already transferred my affections to J. Frakes.

Mastershake, let me be the first to welcome you to the boards, and to direct you to our guidelines: http://www.timewastersguide.com/boards/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=news;action=display;num=1080380396

You'll note that, while many of us spell poorly, we do prefer that our misspellings be accidental: no "u" instead of "you," and so on. We're happy to have you here, but keep that FAQ in mind as you write your posts.

I think we've already established that Me and Jeffe are Number one in the hood g. In fact, I believe EUOL bestowed on us the title "supid".

Yes, I know, I'm old.

But I also didn't miss Wil Wheaton when he left the show, for the same reason. ;)
