Title: Profile Names
Post by: Archon on September 07, 2004, 05:53:49 PM
Some people on this board have names that are plays on their real names (ie Stacer, SaintEhlers....) but how did the rest of you come up with your names. I got mine from a couple places. Starcraft was one of them, another is a play off of Archaon in Warhammer Chaos. What about the rest of you?

I think there was a thread like this from awile ago.  Onion of Death had some funny story about a potato cannon, that's the only one I really remember.

Eagle Prince is the literal meaning of the name Jax Ryan, who is basically my alter ego.

Does Jax, Jack, Jax, Jack, Ryan have an alter ego that he uses as his scapegoat to super-humate?

Could you explain what you mean?

Does my alter ego have an alter ego?  Yes.  Does Jax Ryan have anything to do with Jack Ryan (which I believe is a Tom Clancy character)?  No, I've never really read about him, but I've had one or two people point out the similar name before.

Brenna was my AORP character's name, and so I just kept the name for use with the rest of the board.

Thanks T.F.O. I found it earlier after Eagle Prince said something, but I didnt bother mentioning it because I was just going to let the thread fade out.

well I dunno, maybe we should give al you new people(who've come flooding in) a chance to explain your usernames...

Then again, a lot of the people that have come flooding in never even post. In the last two pages of members only Outkast, Sminja, and I have more than a hundred posts. Not to say that they can't explain their names, it is just interesting that the older members all say that people are flooding in like the site is getting busy, but the newbies don't post.

since when am I an older member?
any who by flooding I mean  a lot come half post once or twice half post a few more times and then three or four stay and thenj a few more leave and then there is one...

To me you are an older member as you were already above level twenty when I came, and you are considered a regular. I don't get why people are creating profiles like this and never using them, what do they get out of it?

T.F.O isn't on level 20 because he's an older member. T.F.O is on level 20 because he spams a lot.

Now, SE is on level 70 or so because he is an older member *and* he spams a lot.

I suppose it makes them feel special, but then they become too nervous to post, leaving the whole experience somewhat fake  and hollow...
JP, Ive been here longer than gorgon and onion...
and I dont spam nearly as much.

Then there's people like me, who've been here longer than most all you guys, and still haven't reached level 10!  But I do keep up on almost all of what you guys are writing about here.  It's just funnier for me to read than to participate in most of your conversations.

Yeah, I just have to insert, that while yes, you may have been here 9 months, to most of us, you're still the part of the new crowd, TFO, and when you externalize "you new people" it's amusing.

Well, my handle is part RL nick (Dex) and part homage to THX-1138. So there you go!
Archon: I would have guess you took your name from the old C=64 game. I used Archon a lot on bbs back in the day b/c I loved that game :)

actually, considering the avatar, it seems like a references to Starcraft.

Or maybe we new people don't post often because we have nothing to say.  Y'all are hilarious, though, and I love reading the threads.

I was really into norse mythology when I was younger.  My best friend had long blonde hair so I joked that she could  be Sif (who literally had golden hair).  So I needed a name too and I just picked up Sigyn who didn't do much but had a tragic life.  I was pretty melodramatic as a kid and thought that tragedy suited me.

Wow, I was under the impression that I was here longer than you, TFO, since I didn't see you show up until about three months after I posted.  But neither of us are anywhere near being senior members, so don't say "you new people".  You and I and everyone who came after us are still newbies, so keep it in mind.

As for the spamming, Onion never spams, I don't think I can find more than one spam in his history.

when I called them new people I meant newer than me, I never called myself a senior member.

Y'know, I'm tempted to edit that spam post and changing to something meaningful and well thought out. Cos, y'know, it'd be funny. To me at least.

You power your bypass grid with a Ferengi bartender? I have always found Mimbari to be a better option. The bony head-crest helps to keep the electric current running smoothly.

Brenna likes to emphasize my age (to keep me grounded) and thus the name. Of course, it's rather amusing that I'm the same age as EUOL and have three kids, two of which are in school.

Then you're definitely not the old one here. I'm a year or two older than you.

I'm the oldest! I rule over all my children and discipline them with my viscious horde of ninja monkey assassin priests.

But, see, Old_One only *thinks* she's the same age as Brandon--she's actually 342 today. (She has this odd habit of aging several years or decades a day, depending on my mood. :) ) However, she gets to reset her age once she reaches 999.

Hey Old One!  That means that one day, you'll get to say, "Hi, I'm five years old."  There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I want to be five years old!  (Though, I suppose that'd mean I'd have to one day be thirteen again, and that's not appealing.)

But on the subject of profile names...mine was gifted to me.
Title: Re: Profile Names
Post by: Brenna on September 13, 2004, 02:16:22 PM
actually, she only gets to reset to the age she thinks she is at the moment (the one that matches with that imaginary "birthdate" of hers). So she doesn't get to be five again. There are rules, you know! ;)

But that won't stop me from pretending to be five or two or four, or six, or twelve . . .

Rules shmules.  I think it would be much more fun to reset to zero, because then we could all be older than Old One.  Don't you think?
