Rants and Stuff / Re: FORTRAN SMASH

i've moved it around.

like, if I put

$somevar = file_put_contents('$newloc', '$docu_content');

and then check against $somevar

Or if I even just put

file_put_contents('$newloc', '$docu_content');

it kills the script.
I'd understand if it were returning false and just not writing the file. But it's like I'm putting DIE; there instead of file_put_contents().
v. irritating.

ok, php, not fortran.

Code: [Select]
$docu_content='string information';
$newloc = '/home/clients/herbertlives.com/www/books/' . $orig;
if (file_put_contents('$newloc', '$docu_content')) {
print '<a href="' . $orig . '">File Created</a>';
} else {
print 'file creation failed';
}
($orig comes from POST data earlier)

now, my understanding is that if file_put_contents() is successful it returns the number of bytes written. Otherwise it returns false.
but all it does here is kill the script.
It does the same thing if I have a variable equal to the file_put_contents() statement and use that variable for the if statement. The script dies when it hits file_put_contents(), which i've tested by moving a print statement around. works fine before it's called, not immediately after.

anyway, jsut very very angry about this right now and no one who knows PHP is online right now to talk to me. so I had to spew it somewhere.

no, i'm afraid it'll be more goober clicking without an engaging story and lots of tedious exploring so I can click the same goobers over and over.

I keep forgetting to post this, but it's noteworthy enough for oldtimers here.
Skaar is the name of The Incredible Hulk's Son. And he does a good job of making me think of our own Skar.

I know this is horrible, since D2 started it all
but... it's one of the few games I've ever had that I never wanted to finish. (the others being ANtaeus Rising and C&C (the first one) ). It got tedious very quickly. I almost resent people getting excited over D3, i just can't build up the energy to do that either.

the change usually involves giving you a change of class. Much like an irritated DM.

it is, but I i believe they're closed. Or else disbanded. If the former, they changed their name. If the latter, some of them formed a new one.

That is an acceptable practice, though depending on the prevailing mood, people may or may not respond to it.

There are inherant dangers in posting any writing on the Internet, however. If you are well known, like EUOL, there's less serious danger in your work being plagierized, at least successfully, but unknowns always run that risk.

I only post that as a warning, not as a means to say don't do it. People will read and it's *likely* someone will read it and give some feedback. However, I do recommend finding a small group of people to do this with regularly. It's more consistant, keeps you obligated to write, lets you read the writing of others, and incurs less risk.

I can't win. Some of you may recall my attempts to interest my girls in "boy" nerd things like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings by buying Leia and Arwen Barbies for them. It was doomed to failure.

Currently, my two oldest are playing out the wedding of Han and Leia using their action figures. Yoda is the ring bearer.

It would, indeed, be sad if you left it at work. I had a Jango Fett at one job with two pistols and I came home with only one. I was distraught over that for a bit. But then I found it on the floor under a book case at home. So it was all good.
Trust me whaen I say that no one will argue with me that Catwoman was a bad movie. And TMNT3 is the worst of the lot. ANd Godzilla, well... it's Godzilla. It's not supposed to be good.

I became a devotee of Red String when I bumped into it on the web. It is, thus far, the only comic that I've felt I wanted to own a hard copy of. Although I almost got Zap! volume one, because I did some volunteer editing for them. Reckoned I could show it. But then I decided that issues of TLE would work better for that purposes if I needed.

Love Hina -- for some reason I was inundated with references to it so I decided I wanted to try it. I wasn't bugged by it. But, I just didn't find it interesting. I have actually looked for other issues of Grenadier, but haven't seen them. I suppose I could just order them, but that's not how I've bought manga in the past.

when I can be bothered to bring in my real camera I can do so. In the mean time, you're close. No Warcraft stuff. Those are Return to the Labyrinth vol 1 and 2. (3 isn't out yet, is it? I'm not following closely, just checking whenever I drop by B&N every month or so).  Bet8ween Azumanga and Love Hina are two non-comics: the Bhagavadgita and a small collection of haiku. I actually like Grenadier better than Ruroni Kenshin, primarily because of the setting, but I haven't actually seen any other volumns of it in B&N when I've stopped by. Love Hina, Grenadier, and RN were ones I bought when I thought I'd try some manga and didn't ask anyone for guidance. Azumanga I bought because I thought the Anime was hilarious. And yes, on the right of Love Hina is the Dark Horse published Red String vol. 1 by Gina Biggs. Yes, it's Shoujo. Yes it's done by an American, and yes, I confess that I adore it. Call me girly. Maybe my daughters have just brain washed me.next tot hat is the Pirates Vs Ninjas I've ranted about elsewhere, follolwed by a hardcover of Batman: Hong Kong. THe "crisis" is actually Identity Crisis (also hardcover) that 42 reviewed for TWG some time back. Also nearly distinguishable there is JLA: Riddle of the Beast, Superman: Red Son, and JLA: A League of One. Hiding are the collected LXG paperbacks.

FOr the curious's sake, the DVDs are Dr. Strangelove, Rock and Rule, Shaun of the Dead, Snakes on a Plane, Godzilla Vs Gigan, TMNT 3, Ghost Rider, Punisher, Catwoman, Underworld, Constantine, Big Trouble in Little China, and Goonies. Yes, some of them are horrible horrible movies. I like horrible movies. Also, the dictionary is ca. 1991. It lacks terms like e-mail. I have it primarily for sentimental reasons.

i actually finished the graphic novel, which is a collection of the SECOND series. The first series was four issues, and I'm buying it as soon as the check I deposited cleared. But the story gets good. There are VIKINGS too. All they need are cowboys and zombies and it's perfect.

It's also fun that the sexy woman pirate is named "Malaria"

lol. Good solution.

It takes all kinds. My red-headed magician on Perfect World was propositioned today. That makes TWO characters of mind. *sigh* And mine can't even GET naked.
