The question is, what do you accept as proof?  Is it that you must see it yourself, or be shown a picture?  What do you consider proof of something?  I am asking seriously.  You are obviously a very skeptical person, but you are consistent with it, which is admirable.  Now I am curious to know just how skeptical you are. Non-belief is the same as disbelief, by the way.  You either believe it, or you don't.

Believe me, there are many Fundamentalist Christians out there who do literally believe that God physically looks like a human male.  Even those who take the bible literally (some even to the point that they still think the Earth is flat), will not change their views if aliens visit this planet.  I have heard some wild theories, but the simplest one is that non-terrestial beings would be a trick of Satan.

That is true.  Every body of land is named except the one where 99.9% of the story takes place.  We have similar needs to know as much as possible, Renoard.  However, I am content with the necessity to keep the Finns dark and mysterious for now.  Besides, the story isn't finished yet, you may still get what you want.

They named the islands all around the mainland (Tremalking, Isle of Madmen, and there is one other that the Seanchan fall back to after they get whooped at Falme, for example).  Would they just be satisfied with keeping everything by country?

Exactly Shard.  Now, it can be argued that both Saidar and Saidin could have been tainted, but it is much more likely that using only half of the power allowed the DO to slip in the taint.

I tend to be very lenient (almost fanboyish) with this series overall, but I will admit that the POV sections of the people who were challenging Elayne for the throne seemed pointless to me.  We really didn't need to get to know these people that well, did we?  who cares about their jockeying and scheming?  Only the cool old guy who was pretending to be crazy (as was his niece) gives this part some point, but I doubt RJ needed to spend so much time introducing him and his successor just so we could have yet another person around one of the main characters who we may not be able to trust.  This part more than any others made me believe that RJ loved this story so much that he just didn't want it to end.

OK.  So basically you are saying that you have not actually ruled out any possibility?  Because some of your earlier posts contradict that.  Logic is a funny thing sometimes.  Since we are emotional beings, and influenced by those emotions, it is nearly impossible to be purely logical.  Besides, it sounds more to me that you have decided God doesn't exist, and only acknowledge evidence to support that belief.  At the very least, you haven't tried to hard to research the possibility.  That being said, is there one theory of the creation of the universe that is more provable than others?   All we can really prove logically is that the universe exists, and that we are in it.  Why we even exist, much less achieved sentience, is a mystery.  Seeing as we are the most intelligent living thing we know of, and nature is still more complex than we are able to understand or properly imitate, you can form a logical assumption that something smarter than us created it.  It is no more or less likely than complete and total randomness.

That makes perfect sense to me, Ook.  Those who are looking for proof of God's existence; do you even have proof that our current scientific understanding of the universe is accurrate?  Modern physics still can't explain why matter in the universe is held together the way it is.  They have theorized that "dark matter" and "dark energy" exist, but there is no proof of this.  If you want to talk about paradox, let's talk about some flaws in mathematics, which is how most theories of the universe are contrived.  Ever hear the problem that, in order for an arrow to travel from the bow to the target, it must first travel half the distance, and then half that distance, and so on, traveling an ever smaller distance each time, but, mathematically, never actually reaching its destination?  Does that prove that math is unreliable?    110 years ago, powered flight was thought to be impossible by many scientists.  Also many scientests did not believe the sound barrier could be broken by a manned craft.  With some research, you can find as many examples of scientific dogmatism as religious dogmatism.

Discovering life on other planets would only disprove some religious interpretations of Genesis, not the existence of a higher power.

I dunno I may agree on the respect that the characters in SW were alot more human and relatable then the LOTR characters.

Could that be due to the fact that only 2 of the 9 main characters are, in fact, human?

Anyway, I like the title "The Gathering Storm".  It gives a sense that the big finish is finally coming.

My sympathies on your friend, Joe.  I'm sure RJ would be happy to know that you are finding refuge in his writing during your time of grief.

I don't think Liandrin is Damane, just a da'covale for Suroth.  I find it even more fitting that someone this evil to be reduced to a servant, and one who must wear see-through clothing as well.  She would be useless as a Damane anyway, that Shield may never be unraveled.

I am glad you like Faile, so many people find her annoying, but I think she's great.

Logain's kiss - pay very close attention to the way Toveine acts afterwards.  Does her behaviour seem strange to you?  What does it remind you of?

Not only does Elayne have to prove herself to be independant of Rand, but since most Andorans blame Morgase for the damage Rahvin caused, she now has to prove she will not follow in her mother's footsteps.  "Lord Gaebril" did some very bad things in Morgase's name.

The Callandor information Cadsuane gives out is what some believe to be the lesson she needs to teach Rand and the Asha'man, per Min's viewing.  I don't think it's that simple, personnally.  One thing I have always wondered is how she knows Callandor is flawed.

Dashiva, et al - don't tell me you are that surprised that some of the Asha'man are bad guys.

That's true, but I am not trying to prove God's existence, I am merely pointing out that, unless irrefutable proof is available, he can't throw out Absolutes.  If he would have said that it was highly unlikely that God exists, then I could accept the logic of that argument, as the evidence is highly interpretational, empirically speaking (wow, I sound like Poindexter).  However, because he is so certain, I would like to see the proof that eliminates entirely the possibility that a higher intelligence is responsible for the incredibly complex, yet perfectly structured, laws of nature and the universe.  If he cannot provide this proof then LOGICALLY he must accept the possibility that he is wrong.

And even when they do practice, the abilities may not manifest themselves right away.  The best example of this is Michael Jordan.  Maybe the best basketball player ever, yet he did not make his High School basketball team.
Albert Einstein could not read or write until he was 10, then everything clicked (boy did it ever).

What do you mean?  You must be more specific than "that".

Not only that, but your conclusion that there is definitely no Higher Power can not be logical, as it is impossible to provide evidence to support it.  The existince of the universe, in which all the immensely complicated rules and laws must all work together perfectly to maintain, is unexplainable.  How did these laws come about?  Why are the tolerances of living things so narrow?  Unless you know something the rest of us don't, you shouldn't be so quick to dismiss any possibility completely.  There is evidence out there of beyond life existence which hasn't been refuted.  Are you choosing to deny this evidence because you don't believe it?  Do you believe black holes exist?  If you do, you believe that those who say it exists are right, unless of course you have seen one yourself.  How about this nugget?  Evolution, by its very definition, is a design of nature.  Moreover, it requires the choice of keeping the good genetic mutations and allowing the bad ones to die out.  It is not random, it is a process, and a pretty intelligent one, at that.

I did not contradict myself.  I was defending my prior post, which argued against right and wrong being known at birth.  If there is an innate moral code, it lies dormant and must be awakened through experience.
