the way to solve your problem with the two-person thread is to introduce a time limit. 10 posts within a proscribed time period with just two people posting. say, 2 hours.

or just make a newbie trash board that way if the mods find such topics we can just move it there.  That way the people can post dumb stuff and the rest of us wont have to wade through it.  That way EUOL dosen't have to feel bad about locking topics.  That's the only way I see getting around the "not wanting to lock topic" problem.

I do think we need a set of rules posted in each board like most forums that say something like: "~Newbies--read here first~"  then have a list of set rules so people have no excuse for breaking the rules.

another thing that would be nice since the Forum is getting higher traphic is a subscribed thread feature.  Where you can get e-mails when a rely is posted and go to a user control panel and it would display only the threads you've subscribed to.

Maybe we should get Tage to upgrade the forum to simplemachines when it comes out.

There are a number of better forums we could use, but we'd lose all the interesting features EUOL added. That's why we haven't changed so far.

what is there besides the "in the corner" and the duel and levels? I'm pretty sure the levels would be super easy to do. The duels, I dunno, since they're in Perl (right?) and Simple Machines is a PHP thingy.

na converting all the stuff EUOL did to PHP wouldn't be hard.  Just take a little bit of time, and EUOL haveing to learn some PHP.  Even though he'd probaly just make me do it all.

maybe the result of losing ten duels from ten seperate people could be being temporarily banned from the board say for an hour. Except for mods that is.

no, losing duels should NOT have any other consequences on the board.

I would just like to say that I would like something to be done. When Gorgon started I could just skip his posts, (don't need to do that anymore, btw) now I'm skipping handfuls of topics in a section. To me this says that something needs to change.

Personally, I think that the Private Messages is the best way to go. Maybe there is something we can do to make the feature more accessible/useful. Then, if there is a topic that is more of an IM conversation, than a discussion, we can just ask the newbs to take it to the PMs rather than putting it on the message board.

If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Well it could be something like if you lose 10 duels, you get the phrase "big loser" added to your title.

But no, nothing important, like posting rights.

ok, i can agree to something like that. That would actually be kind of cool.

Button Men Online does flags. For example, I have *lemurtastic* and *Time Waster* as flags for my account. Just little things like our level titles, only personalized.  You can also bid for titles (if you win arena games, you are awared "buttonyen" which you can use to bet on other games or play video poker with) using buttonyen. something like that would be fun.

That would be really cool. But, are the duels actually recorded somewhere? Does someone have a record of them? It seems to me from the format that they just go through some random calculation using both users' stats. If it does do what I'm thinking, people could just lie about winning duels, couldn't they?

EUOL's still working on the mechanics. Balancing it so fights between people like me (level 66) and people like you (level what, 5? 6?) will be a little more fair. Right now it does not record them, but it would be a trivial matter to record them once everything works appropriately.
