You agree, through your use of this YaBB forum, that you will not post any material which is false, [...]
So, how many of you should be banned? ;) And remember, you can't lie anymore!
-
it's a good thing I can't be banned, I am the king of Bulgaria, after all! ;D
-
Bulgaria? you mean Bologna surely :P
-
Ban me? BAN ME??? You can't ban me! I quit!
Note how I lied in this post, but only if the reader is an admin.
-
So is that a selective lie, or a selective truth?
-
If people inforced this there would not be very many people (if any at all) :D
-
I just thought it was humorous that a forum directed to fiction writers, which by definition is information that is technically false, had that as the first 'rule.' But, then again, I'm sure there are a million ways someone could spin the word or concept of 'false' information.
-
It's probably to make sure that hey can ban anyone that tries a con or something like that. I haven't seen any bots in my time here, but those often post false and bizarre "information".
-
You could always just say you didn't know. Gosh. ::)
-
Wouldn't that be lying to Shaggy??
-
Wouldn't that be lying to Shaggy??
well, it would NOW. Anyways, i don't think ignorance as a defense have ever really been upheld in too many places. :P
-
Well, Bastille, if you lied once, why not do it again?
In this case it should be. If I had never seen a piece of fruit before, and some idiot told me grapes were blue, how is it my fault I believed him?
-
That's very true Shaggy.
But if info on here is false and someone else knew it was false and knew the true answer then they would correct the false person.
In this case they would tell the idiot that that grapes were not blue they are green or purple.

In that case most of us, if not all of us are as well.

Haha well actually I think grapes can be blue but I see your point. :)

well, yeah, but the image is linked from the US Department of agriculture. :P

Can it be? Have we really found someone who doesn't believe the government lies to us? :P

oh, they lie to us, no doubt, even if it's just "sweetening" the truth. I just have no reason to believe they're lying to me about blue grapes. Especially since i've seen 'em first hand! (though they were a much darker blue than these, almost a blue-ish purple)

Tsk-tsk. What ignorance. ::)

Here is living proof that grapes can be blue. ;)

i suppose living in a farming area in the midwest has some advantages, if you can call those advantages. There's also no shortage to the amount of corn crops i've seen :P
-
Living in the Midwest on a farm does gain some advantage. All we see here in New England is corn.
-
Really corn? Are they now using it as a building material for skyscrapers?
-
No but I bet if it grew just a litle more than it could. :P We don't have any skyscrapaers anyway, there are mostly in Boston anyway.

IGNORANCE IS NO EXCUSE!

Haha... so I can't help it. I'm an attorney, and I have to weigh in on this one. Ignorance really is no excuse. If it's a statutory crime (think speeding, loitering, things that are not inherently wrong), then ignorance usually won't get you off the hook, with few exceptions (yeah, I've gotten a ticket after I tried explaining to the cop that I didn't see the speed limit change--haven't you?). We are expected to know (and obey) the laws of the land, even if they seem silly or are not otherwise intuitive; the fact that you never bothered to look them up or were not paying attention won't help you.
If the crime is a common law crime (think murder, stealing, lying (aka fraud)), then ignorance *really* is not an excuse. These are seen as crimes against nature and are inherently wrong. People are supposed to naturally understand that they are wrong, so explaining that you "didn't know" doesn't hold a lot of water. Of course, you can opt out by pleading insanity, but that generally leads to a lifetime in the loony bin, which isn't exactly a vacation.
So I guess the long and short of it is, unless you are pleading insanity (and considering some of the posts I've read on these forums, I have to wonder...), then you are on the hook for posting anything false, especially if you are posting doctored photos of blue grapes 8^o

I plead temporary vanity to your false allegations.

Blue grapes may not exist but people in the midwest are most assuredly smurfs!

I assure you, sir, I am at least 4-5 inches taller than your average smurf, and my skin is a light violet, not blue!
-
Exactly how tall is the average smurf?
-
Anyone remember the "we're not blue we're green! Adjust your TV" commercial?
-
Exactly how tall is the average smurf?
Just three apples tall, yo!
-
I think grapes would be more appropriate in this conversation. . . . ;)
-
I want to know how we got from talking about lies on the forum to smurfs in the Mid West??
You peopole can be so confusing.. ::) ;D ;)
-
Because smurf's always have to be in the spot light, just ask one!
