I just got a nice train derailment in Nebraska,... but nothing like yesterday or last week. Yesterday a helicopter crashed into the Potomac river and last week we had a South Carolina train accident that left 9 people dead; those are examples of reports I took.  

* its a federal call center for reporting chemical and oil spills, terrorism, train and transportation emergencies and all sorts of bad things. Im the Military component of that.

If I were in the field I would be inspecting cargo containers supervising explosive loading, searching vessels and acting as an on scene coordinator for oil and chemical spills.
Thats the crazy stuff.
Here I just answer the phone and talk to the FBI.

oh yeah, although its usually quiet here at night. Mainly we get flare stack reports from refineries and derailments on my shift. Still theres usually one or two biggies a day. I can always count on one big accident a watch.

Well it might be a job, but it sounds pretty important.

Ever been up late and tried to go to sleep, but then you just sit there in bed thinking all night?  I think that's why I ended up a night owl.

yep, I have... often. Imagine doing that and being on a ship... being forced to get up and work all day while standing watches every 8 hours or so. (which means that you stand a 4 hour watch at about 11 pm to 4 am and then sleep till 10. Todays my hard day here, I work my 8 hours and then sleep for about 4 and then wake up and go directly to my second job...
