This is going to be like the Word Watch thread a few fields up. Instead of just one word though, we'll use, at most, 2 lines from a song. I'll start.
I've been leaving on my things
so in the morning when the morning birds sing
-
"Even though the bird has flown
Maybe he'll fly on home"
-
I'm gonna fly like an eagle to the sea,
Fly like an eagle, let my spirit carry me.
-
We fell in love, in the key of C
We walked along, down by the sea
-
Staring at the sea
Staring at the sand
Staring at myself
Reflected in the eyes
Of the dead man on the beach
The dead man on the beach
-
Back at home, a young wife waits.
Her Green Beret has met his fate.
He has died for those oppressed,
leaving her this last request:
Put silver wings on my son's chest
Make him one of America's best.
He'll be a man they test one day,
the brave men of the Green Beret.
I was thinking about dead people on beaches.
-
What happened to the 2 line rule?
-
I threw it out
Some mother's son lies in a field
Some mother's son ain't coming home today
Some mothers son ain't got no grave
-
you son of a bitch
I palindrome I
You uncoordinated ghast. Follow the rule. The one rule.
-
The devil went down to Georgia
he was lookin' for a soul to steal.
Later in the song it uses the colorful phrase Gemm inspired us with.
-
Fire on the mountain run boys run
Devil's in the house of the rising sun
Chicken in the breadpan pickin' out dough
Sorry, I know that's three, but it's incomplete without chicken in the breadpan, and weird if I cut out the middle line.
Mustard--or sun of a gun, depending on whether you're listening to it on a radio station that plays the edited version
-
I met a little devil called the buena buena
And since I met the devil I ain't been the same oh no!
it's the buena buena buena good good good!
-
Down in the west Texas town of El Paso,
I fell in love with a Mexican girl.
-
Just how far down do you want to go?
We can talk it out over a cup of joe,
and you can look deep into my eyes like I was a supermodel.
It's from "Banditos," a song about crossing the Mexican border to commit a robbery, in case you were wondering how I made that jump
-
Look at me, I can write a melody
But I can't expect a soul to care
From "Sucked Out" a song that I forever associate with "Banditos" as they were one-hit wonders released at the same time that were played to death
-
Woke up. Got out of bed.
Dragged a comb across my head.
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup,
And, looking up, I noticed I was late.
-
And I wish I could be
Richard Cory
I refuse to explain myself. Context is the both the originator and the bane of free association.
-
If I had a million dollars I would buy you a green dress (but not a real green dress, that's cruel).
-
Devil with the blue dress, blue dress, blue dress
Devil with the blue dress on
-
Don't step on my blue suede shoes.
-
There's no word in English for my style
-
And we like to drink our beer from a mason jar
Mm-m-m-m-m I love this bar
-
I am invincible, I have no fear.
I am the king of beers
-
"¿Dónde el baño señor?
Please point me to the door
And if you'd be so kind I swear that I won't puke on your floor
¿Dónde el baño señor?"
-
Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river running through the dusty land
I think it's the spanish connection
-
I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain.
-
I'm singing in the rain,
just singing in the rain
-
Without rain, you have sun.
With a surfeit of beats, I'm unlikely to run out,
plus, I'm so bright, it's like redundant to have the sun out
One out, of each ten brags is hyperblic, it's all inconsequential, you're just here to hear my toungue frolic.
-
"I've got my 45 on so I can rock on"
-
choice of two, but I chose the more obscure one
In the back was an old record collection
and every track was stacked.
-
I got a lot of your records, In a seperate stack
Some things I might like to hear, but I guess I'll give them back
-
She doesn't have to have her Young Fresh Fellows tapes back now,
But there's a lot of things that she'll take back.
Beat Gemm to the punch. Of course, since he ONLY posts TMBG lyrics, he'll find something else
-
Broke into the old apartment
This is where we used to live.
-
I am the biggest one
-
There's dust on my guitar you ****, and it's all your fault. And for that, you suck.
-
"And the piano, it sounds a carnival
And the microphone smells like a beer
And they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar and say
Man, what are you doing here?"
-
The piano has been drinking, The Piano has been drinking
The piano has been drinking, Not me
-
I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts
-
you put the lime in the coconut, you drink them both up.
-
and I'm all lit up again.
-
"a crazy gypsy with a gold tatoo"
EDIT: Okay, for commedic value I'll leave that on, since that's what I always thought they were singing, but I checked it on google and it's really:
"I took my troubles down to Madame Ruth
You know that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth"
-
oh lydia, oh lydia, say have you met lydia?
-
So take your hat off to lucky lucky Lindy, the best in the USA!
-
"And crown thy good with Brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!"
-
Shiiiiiiiine oooooooon you craaaaaaazy diiiaamond!
-
"Diamonds are forevah!"
-
Rock and Roll High School Forever
-
I wanna Rock and Roll all night, and party everyday day.
-
I'm comin' up so you better get this party started.
(yeah, well, you can make fun all you want, the criteria is not songs you LIKE.
-
A white sportscoat and a pink carnation: I'm all dressed up for the dance.
-
I'm never gonna dance again. Guilty feet have got no rythmn.
-
And when they asked me how you danced
I'll tell them that you danced real slow
-
Slow down, you move too fast
You've got to make the moment last
-
Everyone was acting normally
So I tried to look nonchalant
-
She lets the music dictate the way that she feels
Gemm, do you know ANY lyrics besides TMBG ones?
-
back in old 19 and 55.
There, sir blah
-
"Shakedown 1979
Cool kids never have the time"
-
I'm head of the class- I'm popular
I'm the quarterback - I'm popular
-
He is the head boy at the school. He is the captain of the team.
ANd I wish I could have all he has got. I wish I could be like David Watts.
-
I wish that I had Jessie's girl
Where can I find a woman like that?
-
I believe in a thing called love
just listen to the rhythm of your heart
-
What's love got to do with it?
-
Loooooooooooooooove, reign o'er me!
-
It is my destiny to be the king of Pain
-
What's your name, my name is Pain
Where do you live, I live anyplace
-
Some day, there'll be a cure for pain. That's the day I throw my drugs away.
-
I want a new duck, one that won't try to bite.
-
Rubber ducky, you're the one. You make bathtime so much fun.
-
She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh. I told her I didn't, then crawled off to sleep in the bath.
-
Splish splash, I was taking a bath. All on a Saturday night
-
Saturday night's alright for fighting. Get a little action in.
-
S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y night
S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y night
-
In the middle of the night, I go walking in my sleep
from the mountains of faith to a river so deep.
-
I go out walking, after midnight, out in the moonlight, just like we used to do
I go out walking, after midnight, searching for you
-
After midnight, we're going to let it all hang out
-
Hang out right, or not at all
If not at all, than you must be a fool.
-
I'm a fool for the city
-
Hot town, summer in the city, back of my neck gettin' dirty and gritty.
-
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right
Here I am, Stuck in the middle with you.
-
Me and you and a dog named Boo, travelin' and livin' off the land.
-
This land is your land, this land is my land, from California, to the New York island
-
Because everyone's your friend
In New York City
-
I'm in a New York state of mind.
-
Moscow girls make me sing and shout, and Georgia's always on my mind.
-
Why, Georgia, why?
-
Why are there so many songs about rainbows?
-
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
-
Birds fly into my windscreen
-
I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings
Coming down, is the hardest thing
-
I'm looking for complications
Looking cos I'm tired of lying
Make my way back home
When I learn to fly
-
tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I.
-
Why am I such a misfit? I am not just a nitwit. You can't fire me--I quit! Why don't I fit in?
-
What's wrong baby, don't they treat you like they should?
Did you take 'em for it? Every penny that you could?
-
Put another nickel in, in the nickelodeon.
-
You don't need a penny, just to hang around
But if you've got a nickel won't you lay your money down
-
It's only music. Only juke box music.
-
Don't try to take me to a disco, I'd rather hear some blues or funky old soul. There's only one sure way to get me to go: start playing old time rock and roll.
-
hey hey, my my. Rock and roll will never die.
-
R-O-C-K in the USA
R-O-C-K in the USA
-
And a rock feels no pain, and an island never cries.
-
Love hurts
OOOoooo love hurts
okay, so I don't know any of the other words to this song...
-
Love bites. Love bleeds.
-
Why, I wonder is my heart full of holes?
And the feeling goes as my hair kept growing.
-
Give me a head with hair, long beautiful hair.
-
My farewell email reads
Farewell to thee, I pass through your world with ease
Like wind blowing through the trees
-
See the tree--how big it's grown--but friend it hasn't been too long--it wasn't big.
-
Take your hat off, boy, when you're talking to me
And be there when I feed the tree
-
Now there's no more oak oppression, for they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal with hatchet, axe, and saw.
-
All this machinery making modern music
Can still be open hearted
-
He was turned to steel in a great magnetic field.
-
A Hydro-field cuts through my neighborhood
Somehow that always just made me feel good
-
Well your back in your old neighborhood
And the cigarettes taste so good
-
Only ever stop frontin' to smoke bowls, take leaks, and sleep,
I catch cat naps, sit in front of the mic so much that my a** chaps.
-
Dreamin' now, now. Dreamin' now, now.
It's still light out, Don't look at me looking back at you
-
Goes to visit his mommy.
She feeds him well, his concerns he forgets them,
And remembers being small, playing under the table and dreaming.
-
Mom, turn my nightlight on? I promise I'll be good.
-
Underneath the stars you met me, underneath the stars you left me, I wonder if the stars regret me.
At least you've gone of your own free will, go gently.
-
Stars shining bright above me
Just say goodnight and whisper you love me.
-
speak to me baby, in the middle of the night
speak to me, hold your mouth to mine
'cause the sky is breaking
it's deeper than love
-
I hear the secrets that you keep when you're talking in your sleep.
-
I'm not telling you a secret
I'm not telling you goodbye
-
It doesn't matter if you mean it
I'll keep your little lie between us.
-
Don't stand so, don't stand so, don't stand so close to me
-
No parking, baby.
No parking on the dance floor.
-
Saturday, in the park--I think it was the Fourth of July.
-
I can remember the Fourth of July
Running through the backwood bare.
-
Roll the stone away, let the guilty pay
It's Independence Day.
-
How does it feel to be on your own, a complete unknown, like a rolling stone?
-
I could go for a walk, I could go for a drive
Listen to the radio, stay inside, Alone, Alone, Alone.
-
Friday night, all the neighbors are out. Got the place to myself, turn the stereo up if I want.
-
Splish, splash I was takin' a bath, 'long about a Saturday night.
Rub dub just relaxing in the tub, thinking everything was all right.
-
Cry, little sister (Thou shalt not kill)
Run, run to your brother (Thou shalt not steal)
Your song just reminded me of the bathtub scene in The Lost Boys
-
Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me
-
Soy un perdedor. I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me.
-
Let me rest in peace, let me get some sleep
Take my love and bury it in a hole six feet deep
-
Bury my heart at wounded knee.
-
The grave that they dug him had flowers, growing on the hillside in the bright summer colors.
-
I went to dance at a funereal, New Orleans Style
I joined the grave dancers union, I had to file
-
Do you realize that everyone you know
Someday, will die.
-
I'm puffing on the ashes of long-lost friend I couldn't fend for,
nor foresee the end for, wouldn't bend for
-
would you lie for me? Would you take my world around you? Would you lie for me? I don't think so.
Would you die for me? Would you take my place? Would you sleep in my grave? Would you die for me? I don't think so.
-
An answer to that question:
I'll kiss you so that you could think that kisses are sublime
but i won't spend a penny 'cause all that you're worth is my time.
-
Well life is, so love the one you got, cause you might get run over or you might get shot.
The connection? The song is by the band Sublime
-
Shot through the heart and you're to blame
You give love a bad name
-
I shot the sheriff, but I didn't shoot the deputy.
-
Put sugar in the tank of the sherriff's car, and slash the deputy's tires so they won't get very far when the finally get the word that there's been a hold up.
-
One day about four or five years ago, we were sitting at the Conoco station. Kickin' tires and lightin' fires and discussin' the state of the union.

Oil!/The National Termoil
Hiding in the Soil/ A Singer and His Spoils
-
I can score you some coke and some really high grade hash, but I can't get a galon of gas
I've got some downers and speed, all the drugs that you need, but I can't get a gallon of gas
-
Somebody once asked could you spare some change for gas I need to get myself away from this place.
I said "Yep, what a concept, I could use a little fuel myself and we could all use a little change."
-
There was a time I asked my father for a dollar, and he gave me a ten dollar raise.
-
Back in the U.S.S.R.
-
Get back.
-
Way back, College boy asked to a High School dance,
Couldn't wait but my date was in my friend's pants.
-
My jacket's going to be cut slim and checked
Maybe a touch of seer-sucker on an open neck
-
I want a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket.
-
She's got legs, and she knows how to use them.
-
I know what I want, and I know how to get it:
I want to unlock the universe.
-
Here we are, born to be kings; we're the Princes of the Universe!
-
I was born under a wandering star.
-
twinkle twinkle little star
How I wonder what you are
-
Star Me Kitten
-
People they come together, people they fall apart.
No one can stop us now, cause we are all made of stars.
-
Everything's Evolving,
Everything's Falling apart.
-
Evolving. Retributions.
Sideways, side now
-
You say you want a revolution, well, you know, we all want to change the world.
-
baby if you want to change the world,
maybe you should just change yourself.
-
Even with a broken heart I love you even still
But if I can't change your mind then no one will
-
How can you mend a broken heart? How can you stop the rain from falling down? How can you stop the sun from shining? What makes the world go round?
-
The rain falls down without my help, I'm afraid /
And the lawn gets wet, though I've withheld my consent.
-
"So I just did me some talking to the sun,
And I said I didn't like the way he got things done,
Sleeping on the job.
Those
Raindrops are falling on my head they keep falling."
Just as a note. This particular song has special meaning to my childhood as my Mom had a little music box that played this song when you pulled the string.
-
Me too! Except it was a little gold birdcage with a stuffed canary, and it was windup.
-
Wow! My mom's was a little plastic box and it had a picture of a girl and a boy under an umbrella. That never made much sense to me.
-
Wait a minute. That sounds really familiar. Maybe the birdcage played a different tune. Because I think we had that one too. :o
-
And in the interest of actually continuing the thread:
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Yep, it's snowing outside right now. I'm not as jolly about it as the song.
-
You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout I'm telling you why - Santa Claus is dead.
And to get the full effect, you have to hear it sung by Barbara Striesand
-
But don't cry
You know the tears'll do no good,
So dry your eyes
-
Each little tear that falls from your eye
Makes, makes-a me want
To take you in my arms and tell you to stop all your sobbing
-
We waste more time each day, and everything's okay, except that...
I can make you cry
-
We can chase our shadows around the lawn until we're both exhausted.
I can give you a star and you can give me one too and that way we'd be even.
ANd I can sing a song way out of tune and not care a bit about it.
Whoever said there's nothing new under the sun never though much about individuals, but he's dead anyway.
(yeah, I pulled the lines from different verses, but they're all in the same song, deal with it)
-
ok, my last post seemed to have killed the thread, so... trying again...
We could be sleeping in the flowers, we could sleep all afternoon
You'd proclaim that you're an island, I'd proclaim that I'm one too...
I declare that I am England, you declare that I have drowned.
-
She's a brick and I'm drowin' slowly...
-
If you decide someday to stop this little game that you are playin',
I'm gonna tell you all what my heart's been a-dyin' to be sayin'.
Just like a ghost, you've been a-hauntin' my dreams,
So I'll propose... on Halloween.
Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you.
Because this guy sounds like he's suffering from the same problem.
-
Dancing at the zombie zoo
-
my sisters ex husband cant get no lovin, took him for all he was worth. Now he's got nothin head in the oven I just dont know which is worse.
-
My bank went broke and my well ran dry.
It was almost enough to contemplate suicide.
I turned on the gas, but I soon realized
I hadn't settled my bill so they cut off my supply.
No matter how I try, it seems I'm too young to die.
-
You ask about my consience
And I offer you my soul
You ask if Ill grow to be a wise man
Well I ask if Ill grow old
You ask me if I known love
And what its like to sing songs in the rain
Well Ive seen love come
And Ive seen it shot down
Ive seen it die in vain
Shot down in a blaze of glory
Take me now but know the truth
cause Im going down in a blaze of glory
Lord I never drew first
But I drew first blood
Im the devils son
Call me young gun
-
I never liked the rain until I walked through it with you
Every thunder cloud that came was one more I might not get through
On the darkest day there's always light and now I see it too
But I never liked the rain until I walked through it with you...
When the cloud is rolling over thunder striking me
It's as bright as lightning and I wonder why I couldn't see
That it's always good and when the flood is gone we still remain
Guess I've known all along I just belong here with you falling
-
Never gave a thought to fashion till someone said I look like you.
Never gave a thought to passion till someone said I kiss like you.
And baby I was never cool enough to get a job in a record store
But if I was I wouldn't wnat to any more.

Franklin Delino Roosevelt
knew not what to do
"this tie clashes with my hat," he cried
don't you think thats true
Au Contraire Delino
Hate to rain on your parade
As it happens Au Contraire

Michelle, ma belle
These are words that go together well
My Michelle
Michelle, ma belle
Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble
Tres bien ensemble
I love you, I love you, I love you
That's all I want to say
Until I find a way
I will say the only words I know that
You'll understand
-
Goodbye Michelle, my little one
You gave me love and helped me find the sun,
And every time that I was down,
you would always come around
and get my feet back on the ground
Goodbye Michelle, it's hard to die.
-
Well, well, well you just can't tell
Well, well, well my Michelle
Well, well, well you never can tell
Well, well, well my Michelle
Everyone needs love
You know that it's true
Someday you'll find someone
That'll fall in love with you
But oh the time it takes
When you're all alone
Someday you'll find someone
That you can call your own
But till then ya better...
-
Nobody's business if I want, talk, make love, sing but I'm able to love.
Able to live .
This was a cool thread, that's why I'm reviving it. Much more interesting than "What's playing?" in any case.
-
Juliet said "Hey that's Romeo - you almost gave me a heart attack." She's underneath the window singing, "hey, my boyfriend's back."
I agree completely JP -- much more entertaining.
-
ROmeo and Juliet are sleeping in eternity
We can be like they were
Don't fear the Reaper.

I thought the chance it was a hundred to one
On one thumb
I could count up the percentage of my coming undone
but now some calculation of impatiently fated rhymes

With all her talk of all the others, When it shadows everything ....
And I'm untied, I can't unwind your Valentines.
-
I once had a dream of a gleam in my eye
and I'll have it till the day I die
I had a thought bubble of trouble and strife
And it lasted for the rest of my life

There's never never never never never any trouble here in Bubbleland, Bubbleland, Bubbleland.

In hell there's a big hotel where the bar just closed and the windows never open. No phone, so you can't call home, and the TV works, but the clicker is broken.

I'm in a heartbreak hotel and there's a deskclerk for hire.
edit: sorry, just realized how badly I screwed up that line, shouldn't affect the flow of ideas though
-
I'm in this cheap hotel, next to the Taco Bell, without a hope in hell--Can't believe that I'm still around.
That's two "hell" posts in a row. Three cheers for me.
-
avalanche or roadblock I was a snowball in hell
avalanche or roadblock, a jailer trapped in his cell.
-
Yo, Del, I feel like a Ghost in the Shell
I wrote this in jail playin' host to a cell
For the pure verbal, my sentence was equivalent to murder
Just another hurdle, I bounce through a portal.

They try to charge me with murder
'cause my rhyme held 'em down like an ancha'

Oh, Rusty Anchor, goin' down, down, down,
Oh Rusty Anchor, guess I gotta hang around...
-
I guess she won't regret it when she finds me in the mornin' wet and drowned, and word gets round, I'm goin' down.
-
oh no! the beat's so busted up
like my lip, drinkin pedro out the rusted cup
shredded it, embedded a sample that didn't fit
tell me I'll regret it? yo, I already did.
-
Beat on the brat, beat on the brat, beat on the brat with a baseball bat oh yeah.

We're talkin' softball, from Maine to San Diego, talkin' softball, Mattingly and Conseco. Ken Griffey's grotesquely swollen jaw. Steve Sachs and his run-in with the law...

then I'll break it again, then I'll break it some more
(mc frontalot you're so hardcore)

Now they're planning the crime of the century
Well what will it be?
Read all about their schemes and adventuring.
It's well worth a fee
-
you think we might get away with it
I think we might get away with it
but how? Y'know I've got to know how
Monday morning they'll be asking questions
Monday morning we'll have to answer questions
So let's get our stories straight
So let's tie up all these loose ends
-
(Tell me why) I don't like Mondays
(Tell me why) I don't like Mondays
(Tell me why) I don't like Mondays
I want to shoo, oo oo oot, the whole day down.
-
Monday Monday (la laaaa la la la)
can't trust that day (la laaaa la la la)
-
Monday! I'm all high!
Get me out of F.L.A.
I fooled ya, in school yeah
Now I know I made a mistake
I made a big mistake!
-
you forgotten how it started
Close your eyes
think of all the bubbles of love we made
and you're down on your knees
it's too late.
Oh don't come crawlin'
and you lie by my feet.
what a big mistake.
I see you fallin'
Yes, I am aware Natalie Imbruglia Lyrics are worth Negative points.

I can't get behind,
a fat ass!
-
Well it's not as tough he's fat -- no, there's more to it than that.
-
I'm fat. I'm fat. When I sit around the house I really sit around the house.
-
Twiddle my thumbs just for a bit, I'm sick of all the same old [stuff]
In the house with unlocked doors and I'm [quite] lazy!
edit: by your friendly mod! Saint-ized for your protection!
-
Okay, enough already. Adding asterisks doesn't really help anything -- no more swearing lyrics.
-
When I first saw that HoMsar, I thought you were mentioning my lyrics. But they came from Shatner's own mouth, so I figured everyone would love them.
When shall I shower, in the one remaining hour,
In the one remaining hour before the show?
Will I get to shower in the one remaining hour,
Will there even be the time, the answers no.
At the Astoria, they got the big light up sign that says Gay.
Wake up and play.

Get up (Get up) cos we're fed up.
Tryin' to rhyme so keep your head up (Head up)
Leave the kinging to kong, we'll be singin' this song,
Bring it on, Bring it on, bring it on.
-
Get it on. Bang a gong. Get it on.

Stop the Rock (Can't Stop the Rock)
Shake that Paranoia (Can't stop the Rock)
-
I wanna rock! I want to rock!
-
(Boom Boom Chak, Boom Boom Chak, Boom Boom Chak)
We will, We Will Rock you
We Will, We Will rock you
And if no-one spots the huge gimme in the brackets, I will call you all uncultured
-
I wanna rock and roll all night
and party every day
-
We're all for one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.
-
Now for ten years we've been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin' stone,
But that's not how it used to be.
-
But for seven years
You were loved
And I laid golden orchid crowns
Around you feet
-
Now my knees are shaking and I find my spine is gone
From holding up the pedestal that I've put her on.
You're all uncultured.
-
But my silent fears have gripped me long before I reach the phone
Long before my tongue has tripped me. Must I always be alone?
-
It's hard to believe, that there's no-one out there
It's hard to believe that I'm all alone
At least I have her love, the city she loves me
Lonely as I am, together we cry.
-
Trees
Tell the moon
You've seen the serpent
Found the sword
and walked among the trees
Trip the forest
Through the branches
On the limb you fell the nest of bees
-
I'm just a little black raincloud hovering under the honey tree
Oh I'm just a little black raincloud; pay no attention to me.
Everyone knows that a raincloud never eats honey, no, not a nip
I'm just a little black raincloud wondering where I will drip.
-
I see a red door and I want to paint it black
no colors anymore, I want them to turn black
I see girls turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a newborn baby, it just happens everyday.
No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not forsee this thing happening to you

When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.
-
When I was a very small boy, very small boys talked to me,
Now that we've grown up together, they're araid of what they see.
-
In the town where I was born,
There lived a man who sailed the sea...
(Sorry I'm a bit single-minded today) :P
-
I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now
It was either continue the youth theme or do Mr. Me by TMBG.
-
Well the children they grow up so fast
with no time to go to school.
Almost before they learn to walk,
they learn to spin and spool.
-
They go to school to fingerpaint, will gun you down without restraint
Kindergarten maniacs drifting further from the tracks.
Fed on a diet of cartoon violence. soak it all up with a day of silence.
-
Then Silence hits the street like a bomb, an eerie calm like the eye of a storm.
-
Time here,
all but means nothing, just shadows that move 'cross the wall,
They keep me company, but they don't ask of me,
they don't say nothing at all.
-
I wanna feel the changes coming down.
I wanna know what I've been hiding in
My shadow.
Change is coming through my shadow.
-
Now, nothing can stop in this land of the pain
The same lose, not knowing they were part of the game
And while the insides change, the box stays the same
And the figure inside could bear anybody's name
-
There's a little black spot on the sun today.
It's the same old thing as yesterday.
-
Lazy gun messed up my television fun
Shoot the shotgun but the war is never won
Who's the enemy, who's sucking on my sun?
I'm the only one left now you've taken all my fun
-
Live it up. Rip it up. Why so lazy?
Give it out. Dish it out. Let's go crazy.
-
You may be right. I may be crazy
But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for.
-
and now maybe, I didn't mean to treat you bad
but I did it anyway
and now maybe, some would say your life was sad
but you lived it anyway
-
...I do beleive I've failed you,
I know I've let you down,
Don't you know I tried so hard
To love you in my way,
It's easy, let it go...
-
Jenny says, "Turn off the radio"
Jenny says, "Turn out the lights"
Jenny says, "Turn off the video"
You beat yourself up just to get yourself down
When the world is coming down on me I let it go.
-
They took the credit for your second symphony.
Rewritten by machine and new technology,
and now I understand the problems you can see.
Oh-a oh
I met your children
Oh-a oh
What did you tell them?
Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.
Pictures came and broke your heart.
-
All this technology making modern music can still be open hearted.
-
Spin, spin, spinning webs of deception and lies,
Fly, fly, flying through the desperation in your eyes. . . . .
-
You spin me right round, baby, right round like a record, baby. Right round, round, round.
-
Boil that cabbage down, boy,
Turn that oat cake round.
The only song I ever sing is
Boil that cabbage down.
-
Melt it down.
You're gonna have to eventually anyway.
The fire trucks are coming up around the bend.
-
How can we sleep when our beds are burning?
How can we dance when our world keeps turning?
-
We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine
-
And we danced, like a wave on the ocean, romanced
We were liars in love and we danced
-
I opened up my eyes and found myself alone
alone, alone, alone upon an empty sea.
-
He's going the distance.
He's going for speed.
She's all alone
In her time of need.
-
I am on my way
I can go the distance
I don't care how far
Somehow I'll be strong
I know ev'ry mile
Will be worth my while
I would go most anywhere
to find where I belong
-
I would walk 500 miles.

Lady in red...is dancing with me...
Connection: flashbacks to 7th grade dances
-
Devil with a blue dress, blue dress, blue dress. Devil with a blue dress on.
-
The devil went down to Georgia
He was looking for a soul to steal
He was in a bind cause he was way behind
And he was willing to make a deal
-
You see I met a devil named Buena, Buena
And since I met the devil I ain't been the same, oh no.
-
How can I put it? You put me on
I even fell for that stupid love song
Yeah yeah
Since you've been gone
How come I never hear you say
I just wanna be with you
I guess you never felt that way
But since you've been gone
I can breathe for the first time
I'm so movin on
Yeah yeah
Thanks to you
Now I get
I get what I want
Since you've been gone
-
This is my love song baby, I'll sing it for you.
-
Why does my mind blow to bits every time they play that song?
It's just the way that he sings,
not the words that he says, or the band.
I'm in love with this soul, it's a meaning that I understand.
-
He blew his mind out in a car
He didn't notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They'd seen his face before
Nobody was really sure
If he was from the House of Lords.
-
I once had a girlfriend,
But then one day she dumped me and everywhere
I'd go people would ask me where she was.
I don't want to talk about her.
Someone always asks about her.
So I tell them all my girlfriend's dead.
I say it's leukemia or sometimes bulimia
Or a great big truck ran her over
And chopped off her head.
I don't want to talk about her.
Someone always asks about her.
So I tell them all she's dead.
I guess there's a part of me that likes the sympathy
Or the looks on their faces when I tell them how
She passed away.
I don't want to talk about her.
Someone always asks about her.
So I tell them all she's dead.
(My girlfriend's dead)
My girlfriend's dead you see,
It's a total lie, but it's easier on me
Than having to admit she likes someone else.
(Sorry so long, but the lyrics are so awesome--so funny and so true to how you feel after a breakup. I think I may have to go post it on the Cool Lyrics thread as well.)
-
Do you think that she'll pull through?
Do you really think she'll pull through?
Girlfriend in a coma. I know, I know it's serious.
Girlfriend in a coma. I know, I know it's really serious.
There were times when I could
Have strangled her
(but you know, I would hate
Anything to happen to her)
Would you please
Let me see her !
-
I could get a job,
I could pay the phone bills,
I could cut the lawn,
Cut my hair,
Cut out my cholesterol.
I could work overtime,
I could work in a mine,
I could do it all for you.
But I don't want to.
-
I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While you're far away dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure
Don't want to close my eyes
I don't want to fall asleep
Cause I'd miss you baby
And I don't want to miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
I'd still miss you baby
And I don't want to miss a thing
-
Hey -- no more quoting an entire song, please.
Sweet dreams are made of these
Who am I to disagree?
-
Stars shining bright above you
night breeze that seems to whisper, "I love you."
but in your dreams, whatever they be,
dream a little dream of me.
I always thought that was a weird way to put it, what if he has dreams about murdering people? Does she still want him to dream about her?
-
I wanna tell you what I'm feeling
But I don't know how to start
I wanna tell you
But now I'm afraid that you might break my heart
Oh, why should anything so easy
Ever be so hard to do
I wanna tell you what I'm feeling
And to say that I love you
-
I couldn't tell you I was happy you were gone,
So I lied and said that I missed you when we were apart.
I couldn't tell you, so I had to lead you on,
But I didn't mean to break your heart.
-
Can't call it cheatin, she reminds me of you.
-
Ain't Misbehavin', I'm saving all my loving for you.
-
Saving up your money for a rainy day,
Giving all your clothes to charity.
Last night, the wife said "Oh boy, when you're dead,
you won't take nothing with you but your soul."
-
All my clothes were dirty, so I threw them all away.
Time for some new ones anyway
I'd like to rob a bank
I'd like some help
I feel like I'm trapped in a book
About someone else
-
You may not believe in me
But I believe in you
So I still take the trash out
Does that make me too normal for you?
I am extraordinary, if you'd ever get to know me
I am extraordinary, I am just your ordinary
Average every day sane psycho
Supergoddess
Average every day sane psycho
Supergoddess
(connection: throwing something out)

You could power a city with this
I am useless, I am a mess
I am the smallest giant ever
Smallest giant ever
-
A Hydro-field cuts through my neighborhood
Somehow that always just made me feel good
I can put a spare bulb in my hand
And light up my yard
-
You light up my life...
