David Gemmel wrote very OTT combat fantasy (by which I mean, they were very focused on the combat aspects). I was never that impressed by his work, but there you go.

Sympathies for the family and so on.

And yet I'll bet your petrol prices won't even begin to equal those that are being charged in the UK :P

Prey was fun but yeah, it was short. It seems that all shooters are that way now - it takes so much work to make the levels that you just don't get many of them. It's not the days of doom 1, 9 months to make a game that lasted what? 30, 40 hours? Modern shooters take 3 years and hundreds of guys to make 10 - 15 hours.

Though mind you, I wasn't exactly chomping at the bit by the end - the storyline didn't quite live up to it's early promise. Shooters are having a hard time living up to my expectations to be honest - I found Doom 3 average and Quake 4 terrible. I found the original quake (played through it recently) to be more fun than 4.

Lasted longer too.

I am eerily reminded of when we all found out you assigned Elantris for your class and Ent made the quip about Sprigg standing behind you with a knife and saying "Elantris or eviceration". That wouldn't happen to be related in any way would it?

*snickers* One of my finer moments. And i'd forgotten about having a cameo in this book - that's probably the most awesome cameo ever. 'Dead man - Entropy'.

It works on the front page because there is a space there. It doesn't work on the forums, because there isn't a space just lying empty. It's filling space thats already been filled.

Good review.

I think the clocks are a little out - the review was more positive than I expect from a 3.5. Thats traditionally been 'it's ok but don't go out of your way for it'. While the review seemed more like a 4 to me - 'good, but not going to be remembered as a great'.

Also, we could have done with a few hyperlinks scattered around this review - mainly to Shalymans other movies, which were referenced repeatedly. Movie links should be to our reviews of them, rather than to imdb.

I despise cities in any sci fi mmo. A lot of these games carry the 'cyberpunk' descriptor, but their cities are concrete bunkers underground with no discernable character or interesting locations.

Though i've realised that MMO's and Entropy do not mix well.

I don't like having a popup that stays in place either. Put it in as a small ad somewhere discreet, not a floating flash thing.

I'd like to hear precisely how the modern day is more immoral or corrupt or bad than the victorian era. Or the early 20th century. Or, indeed, any other time period you care to name.

It's got lots of explosions, it's mixing CGI transformers with Live action actors.

What? Dude, violence nudity and foul language have always been part of the human experience. Trying to pretend they don't happen and blaming hollywood for 'deadening society to them' is just inane. Those things are facts of life and people want to see them on the screen because they are facts of life.

And while U (see below) rated movies might make more money, you might want to consider the idea of 'markets'. The market for U is vastly different from the market for 18 rated films. I watch perhaps 2 U rated films a year, out of dozens. If hollywood made no films that weren't rated U, that doesn't mean i'd watch more films rated U - it means i'd watch less hollywood films overall. You may not like that content, but you've hardly got any reasonable claim to demand that nobody else watch it either.

Here in the UK, a U rating means anyone can watch it. The ratings go U, Ua (suitable for kids and adults, but you rarely see it afaik), 12, 12a (kids under 12 can go see it in cinemas, if their parents are with them), 15, 18.

Suggestions Box / D&D section
« on: July 15, 2006, 10:20:47 AM »
A few things...
1) Could we sort the D&D section out, removing all the 3.0 articles and putting them into a seperate archive? It's hard to know, as a reader, if the review your reading is the up-to-date one.
2) Some books arn't in the section - all three of the enviromental books are absent, for example.

On other related notes, how come the listings work differently on different pages? The general Reviews listing for RPG's is sorted by title, while the D&D listing is sorted by score. It's kind of wierd - is it set like that in the back-end, or is the site remembering what I did to it last?
